Over the last decade, there were two hypotheses: H1: the political right genuinely cared about threats to speech from the left. H2: they were using campus speech wars to impose their values and silence dissent. Today, the answer is clear, but I can't find any of the H1 people admitting their error.

Look, I'm not trying to be unsympathetic to the politicians in the article. But non-pols get these threats daily. Woman got doxxed and their kids threatened for disclosing they were harassed by a serial predator. I got an artisanal hand-written death threat mailed to my apartment. Deal with it.

"ADHD label risks lifelong harm to children." If you don't label the disorder, then what we will be labelled instead is "Lazy." "Underachiever." "Doesn't live up to their potential." "Bad student." Those labels come with pain, shame, and abuse. The ADHD label comes with a chance for support.

Yeah? Is it? How about not just threats, but realized violence committed against the people by the state at the instruction of those politicians who, presumably, have agency? Is that not also political violence? Is that not also a threat to a functioning democracy?

With Ohio legislators home campaigning in their districts, one Republican quietly introduced a bill to prevent an LGBTQ+ youth from being raised by a non-parent supportive adult – like a grandparent – even if the youth has been rejected by their parents for being LGBTQ+.

Ohio’s new Republican bill raises a familiar question: Which families count?
The Family Sovereignty Act would limit who can allege that a child appears abused or neglected.

Just a reminder - the previous government forced trans & gender-questioning youth who are under 18 to go through the CAMHS service (with equally long waiting lists) before being referred onto youth gender clinics - effectively hiding the numbers of trans+ kids waiting for CAMHS (and any deaths)!

Today is National Coming Out Day. Many governments censor and police LGBTQ lives. The media caricature our existence as “ideologies.” Visibility is not easy or desirable in these circumstances. So, let’s work collectively on creating spaces where LGBTQ folk flourish without the demand to “come out.”

I mean, no, the reason cops are disproportionately likely to say they believe rates of false allegations are higher than they are is because cops are disproportionately likely to do things that would make them the subject of allegations that are true
Most criminal justice experts estimate that 2 to 8 percent of sexual assault allegations are actually false. But law enforcement officers tend to assume the rate of false reporting is much higher—in part because police officers don't always receive training on how trauma can affect memory or behavior.

Russell Stover has begun using prison labor to make candy in
Kansas
A Russell Stover candy factory in Kansas has begun hiring incarcerated workers through a work release program, Eoin Higgins reports in his newsletter, The Flashpoint. About 150 women are bussed in from the Topeka Correctional Facility and paid $14 an hour, but the prison keeps some of their wages for room and board, taxes, transportation, and other expenses. When all is said and done, they take home less than $6 per hour. These deductions are high, but elsewhere in the country, they're even higher: In our May series on prison
