He literally set off a bomb in a UK street. If this had been the IRA Pierce would calling for them to be hung, drawn and quartered. This is domestic terrorism pure and simple. A bomb set off to terrorise with the aim of getting a government to change its policy. Literally a textbook definition.

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.
When the Department of Homeland Security sent Nevada a list of 185 names last month that it claimed identified noncitizens who had been improperly allowed to register to vote, state election officials got to work.
On Tuesday, the state sent a strongly worded rebuke to the federal government: Every single person on the list was a lawful citizen.
"As for the 185 individuals, our records indicate that they were citizens," Greg D. Ott, a deputy attorney general in Nevada, wrote, according to a copy of a letter sent to Department of Homeland Security officials obtained through open records requests.
"You have provided nothing of substance to suggest otherwise."Following the meeting, Ms. Vogt sent a clarifying email to Nevada officials. "I also wanted to be sure I clarified that we did not reduce the 15,903 to 185," she wrote. "We've manually reviewed some of the 15,903 and confirmed 185 are not U.S. Citizens."
Now, Nevada officials are saying even that 185 number is wrong. They also took issue with a letter D.H.S. sent them in early September, in which the agency reiterated its initial claims about nearly 16,000 noncitizens on the rolls and pressured state officials to review each case in a letter to Nevada officials in early September.

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.

I'm sure there's a pattern here but I'm damned if I can make it out.
How misperceptions divide along party lines
Reform UK supporters think half of London’s population is Muslim. Their median guess of 50% is notably higher than the equivalent figure for Conservatives (40%), who guess next-highest, and more than three times the reality of 15%.
Different parties’ supporters misperceive London's ethnic make-up in different ways. Green and Labour supporters most overestimate the White British share, guessing 50% against a reality of 37%, while Reform supporters most overestimate the Black and Asian populations, estimating each at 30% against realities of 14% and 21%.
On the crimes that have genuinely risen, it is supporters on the left who are most often wrong. Violence and sexual offences have both increased in London, even if rates of both are still among the lowest in the country, yet fewer than half of Labour and Green supporters recognise that either has gone up – compared with majorities of Reform and Conservative supporters.
Reform supporters have the most inflated view of the risk of crime in London, guessing that 40% of Londoners were victims of crime in a single year – more than three times the reality (12.2%) – and are most likely to wrongly think total crime has risen since 2019, with nine in 10 (87%) holding this misperception.
Reform supporters also most overestimate how unsafe Londoners feel, guessing that 70% do not feel safe walking alone after dark – 10 points above Conservatives (60%), the next-highest, and almost double the reality of 37%.

Lee Anderson had a lunchtime riff about how much he'd enjoyed the violence meted out on one of Friday's protesters. thecritic.co.uk/nigel-and-th...
Reform’s conference really is unlike any other party’s annual gathering. First, the crowd is much bigger and far more enthusiastic. Labour and the Tories would love to be able to pull off some of this glitz. But the striking thing about Friday, the first day of the conference, was how little content there was. It was largely pantomime, jollied along by David Bull and Lee Anderson, the party’s answer to Buttons and Widow Twankey. The big news story was Nigel Farage signing an imaginary treaty with Jordan Bardella, the leader of France’s National Rally. (His party changed its name in 2018 — apparently you’re only allowed to call it the National Front if it’s from the Vichy region. Otherwise it’s sparkling fascism.)

Farage’s speech on the Friday evening was interrupted by at least four female protestors, each of them swiftly bundled out. The official security people were pretty rough, but in at least one case, elderly party members — one of them with a walking stick — took matters into their own hands, grabbing at a woman and pulling her hair. On stage, Farage laughed. His catchphrase when faced with criticism flashed up behind him: “BORING BORING BORING BORING.” It’s quite possible that under the lights he couldn’t see exactly what was happening below him, but Lee Anderson, speaking on Saturday after apparently seeing a video of this, proposed a whip-round to buy one of the attackers a new walking stick. With his next breath, he was warning about the hordes of foreign men waiting in Calais to do violence to British women, ignoring the dangers from the pensioners right there with us in the hall.

Markets Do Not Punish Firms for Maintaining DEI*
Hanna Folsz
Jacob M. Grumbach*
August 14, 2026
Abstract
The Trump administration has used executive authority to influence the behavior of civil society organizations such as law firms, universities, and corporations.
Do corporations that resist executive orders perform worse financially? In January 2025, the Trump administration issued an executive order directing federal agencies to investigate and compel firms to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. Some firms complied with the order, whereas other firms resisted by reaffirming their DEl programs. We find that S&P 500 firms that maintained their DEI programs performed just as well as compliant firms, both in terms of stock market returns and revenue. The results are robust across various measures of maintaining DEI, including measures based on executives' public statements about DEI programs, interest group ratings, firm financial statements, and shareholder rejections of anti-DEl resolutions. The results suggest that, at least in some areas, firms can resist pressure from the executive branch with minimal costs to financial performance.
