🚨 All eyes on the border wall blockade at Camp O:ṣhad in Lochiel, Ariz. This morning, over 50 Border Patrol / BORTAC agents raided the resistance camp, entering private property without a warrant, attacking land defenders & deploying a cherry-picker to extract the tree sitter.

there should be no university police forces. Cornell has failed in every way and every process, including the lack of regulation of greek life before this horrible rape even happened, the police, the title ix processes. it is disgusting.

You’re so right on with this! These cases reveal just how much police protect rapists. I hope we can get to the place where the common sense response isn’t more policing.

In light of today’s conversation on academic accommodations, I’m going to revive a thread lost to time when I deleted my Twitter profile. It’s about a bunch of academic accommodations that instructors can offer in lieu of an extension on an assignment. 🧵

abolish DFCS and all forms of policing. this is not the answer to any social problems (and it doesn't prevent child abuse)

What I find truly confusing about this is that meal planning is the least amount of time in the whole process. what’s saving a lot of time is the worker doing your shopping. So while the task of planning may be tedious for some (not tedious for others), the time saved is a blip compared to shopping.

NHJ's daughter says kids at her new high school are no smarter than at her old school, plus she's facing racism for the first time. But white readers take away that privileged Black families should send their kids to superior white schools and maybe apologize for trying to help maj Black schools.

ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.

One of the basic points in Mills' The Racial Contract (originally published in 1997!) was that, if nothing else, White Supremacy deserves to be taken seriously as one of the great motivating ideologies of modernity and it's bizarre that political philosophers are so disinclined to treat it as such.

I don’t think NHJ argues or thinks her (and her husbands) choices will change the system. It’s worth analyzing her choices/claims on the terms she provides. Does opting not to play the “elite” school game and go to your community school reduce harm?

David Sparrow @davidsparrow.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
I’ve seen some good critiques of the recent Hannah-Jones piece, but which don’t seem to focus on NHJ’s claims. Some responses interpret NHJ’s choices as a theory of change, which feels like a misread. I interpret her choice to disengage from school choice as a kind of harm reduction.

STEM course materials about 85 percent costlier than humanities, arts textbooks
Students enrolled in STEM courses pay about $45 more for books than those in non-STEM courses, a Hatchet analysis found.

One of the more insidious phrasings I've seen with the Dems/trans rights discourse lately is the idea that trans people are being greedy and demanding a "maximalist" approach to trans rights. No, you cannot call the state of rights American trans people had as recently as 2023 "maximalist," sorry.

“So in summary: using AI for coding led to depression, apathy, existential dread, and worse software. Not good.” Appreciate the honesty in this piece. What’s also striking is how much this experience matches the kind of alienation that workers have experienced under capitalism.

Capital flight is both regional and international. It’s harmful to workers when it doesn’t cross an international border. But international borders are also integral to how many industries manage the labor process. It’s all connected.

It’s been a while since I read Golden Gulag but do you think RWGs analysis of Mothers Roc be an example of how she’s engaging with Black radical tradition?
110
David Sparrow @davidsparrow.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
I guess one way to put it is that RWG is adding Uneven and Combined Development theory to Racial Capitalism. But again I don’t know Robinsons work well enough to say more.
210
David Sparrow @davidsparrow.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
Appreciate the clarity. I don’t have the knowledge of the source material to make a case on glossing. But I do think RWG is making the argument that the process that racializes ppl for exploitation in one time/place is the same process as criminalization.

David Sparrow @davidsparrow.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
