Was thinking about this today. Windows installs (by default) to C-drive, "C:\" It's called that because early computers had up to two floppy drives, "A:\" & "B:\". Software developers hard-coded that into early programs & then it just became the default assumption, even after floppies went away.
I think this is a 1980 IBM PC, an ancient computer with two 5.25" floppy drives, a proper CRT that probably weighed 35 lbs, and a massive keyboard built from a typewriter layout.

Hot take: I don't think social media made people dumber. We've been dumb this whole time. It's just that you used to have to have a job that people sent their dumb letters to, to notice. This made "Engaging with fools" an occupational hazard rather than the 24/7 experience it is presently.

If you see a toddler drowning in a small pond, should you rescue the child at the potential cost of ruining your shoes and suit? Or should you run to work and earn enough overtime to pay someone to rescue the child?

The part that throws me off is that isn't Originalism a contradiction against common law? Pretty sure the Founding Fathers (much less any 19th century American legislator) weren't supporters of Napoleonic Code-era civil law legal philosophies.

School music programs are getting absolutely bodied by tariffs, per @nytimes.com: www.nytimes.com/2026/10/02/b...
The effective tariff rate on instruments in June was about 13 percent, said Cullen Hendrix, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. That was down from a peak of nearly 24 percent last September but more than twice as high as before Mr. Trump’s second term.
Band and orchestral instruments have been hit the hardest, he said. In the second quarter of this year, imports of instruments were down nearly 20 percent from the same period in 2024. Imports of orchestral string instruments, including violins, violas and cellos, dropped 50 percent. Brass instruments fell 43 percent.

“It’s hitting the horns, it’s hitting the strings, it’s hitting the percussion,” Mr. Hendrix said. “All of those things combined are kind of sapping the available pool of tools that we can provide these children to begin their journey.”

Radically rethinking "beneficial use" use-it-or-lose-it provisions would help as well. In many cases, senior water rights owners are intentionally wasteful because, if they're not, they'll lose some of their water rights.

This is true. In 2016, I got into an argument with a gay man on a menswear forum. I've since made it my mission to make every man dress gay, thereby destroying his ability to tell who is actually gay and, ultimately, his chances of finding love. I built my social media following to achieve that goal
Someone on Twitter writes to me: "People should follow your advise if they want to look gay."

We should try having some group of people who get to vote on approving agency heads like OMB director.

Sen. Susan Collins

@SenatorCollins
Without warning or consultation, Congress just received an $810 million package of pocket rescissions from the Administration. This is the most recent attempt by this Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to undermine Congress’s Constitutional power of the purse.

This move shows that OMB intentionally withheld these funds for months to execute this unlawful cancellation of appropriations that were approved on a bipartisan basis and signed into law.

Not only is the delay itself an impoundment that was not reported to Congress, but also it is a usurpation of Congress’s appropriations powers. OMB is an agency of the executive branch. It does not get to decide which programs are worth funding.

The independent Government Accountability Office has concluded that pocket rescissions are unlawful and not permitted by the Impoundment Control Act. Any effort to rescind appropriated funds without congressional approval is a clear violation of the law.

I will work with my colleagues to address these illegal actions.

Congressman Amodei swinging at Flippo on this is a big deal. It'd be a bigger deal if he'd endorse Teresa Benitez-Thompson (or TBT, as we affectionately know her). #nvleg #nvpol
A Twitter screencap from journalist Dan Merica, which reads:
The retiring Republican congressman that Flippo is trying to replace, Mark Amodei, has yet to endorse Flippo and told me just now he will "absolutely not" back him. "The guy is a fraud... I'm not having my last action walking out the door to hug a guy who I think is a fraud."

The tweet goes on to quote the original Washington Post article, which is linked in the Bluesky post below this one.
