Dems had a choice between the progressive wing (Bernie Sanders, etc), versus corporate Dems, but in the end money won and constituents lost.
Until corporate Dems are thrown out, the reality is that Republicans remain more likely to tackle Big Tech abuses.

Russ Vought is one of the most dangerous nominees because of his competency. There are plenty of stories about the chaotic evil nominees that will wreak havoc through bumbling incompetency, but Vought is the lawful evil bastard that will break this country with laser-focused intention.

I am once again reminding everyone that “general” is the adjective in “attorney general.” Calling an attorney general “general” is like calling an in-house general counsel “general.” Also reminding folks that when Ted Cruz was Texas solicitor general, he begged his wife to call him “general.”

Just a reminder: Yes, we should celebrate the ceasefire. But no, you absolutely do not have to give Trump credit for the Israel/Gaza ceasefire, if for no other reason than his intentional exclusion and antagonizing of Palestinians with the Abraham Accords helped get us into this mess to begin with.

Working out a scenario where Pornhub has to launch a prestigious monthly print magazine in order to stay online in Tennessee. This is how we bring the business back: ransoming access to stepsister-stuck-in-washing-machine content with long-form literary criticism and Malcolm Harris book excerpts.

I think this point needs some amplification. Military force is never an end in itself; it is always in the service of some end. But the mechanism of how to achieve a human behavioral end from a use of violence/force is not straightforward or automatic.

I think it’s very important for Republican women to know that Pete Hegseth’s accuser is a married mom and a highly respected Republican aide, who went to the police immediately after the assault. They still don’t believe her. Your fascism will not save you from their misogyny.

If I had a nickel for every time Yoon turned his lights off and pretended not to be home until the police got bored and went away, I'd have two nickels. Which is weird because you wouldn't have expected it to work the first time either.

My crumb is getting better. Higher hydration seems to be helping, as well as final proofing in a baguette pan that can go straight into the oven instead of requiring a fumbly transfer.

Mexico has sent a position paper to the UNSC on the right to self-defense under the UN Charter. It insists that one State may not use force against a non-State actor on the territory of another State without the latter's consent, and rejects the "unwilling or unable" doctrine.

So what XHS is thinking right now isn’t “what will the govt tell us to do about this” but “how can we avoid the govt telling us what to do about this” because by that stage its *already* a problem for them.

One important thing here: much Chinese censorship isn’t centralized. It’s carried out by individual apps working toward what they think the govt wants, about 1/3rd of staff at any social media site are on censorship/content duty.

it'll be a little while not out of any cunning plot but because the censorship apparatus isn't prepared for a high-volume of English posts. But this isn't a *help* for Xiaohongshu right now, it's a giant pain-in-the-ass potential political problem that their people will be sweating about.

BREAKING: Judge Aileen Cannon rejects Donald Trump's request to keep Volume One (Jan. 6 case) of Special Counsel Smith's blocked beyond midnight. Background: substack.com/@chrisgeidne...
PAPERLESS ORDER denying President-Elect Trump's Motion to Intervene as to Volume I of Special Counsel's Final Report 681 and Emergency Supplement 700 . The Court has reviewed the Motion and the Emergency Supplement 700 . Consistent with the Court's Order Denying in Part the Emergency Motion filed by Defendants Nauta and De Oliveira as to Volume I 697 , and in light of the United States' clarifications affirming the severability of Volumes I and II 692 , the Motion to Intervene is denied as to Volume I and reserved on the balance of the Motion, including the alternative request for amicus participation as to Volume II. As indicated 697 , the Order Granting Defendants' Motion to Dismiss the Superseding Indictment is confined to this proceeding 672 , as is this Court's authority to enforce its own orders in this proceeding. The Court is therefore constrained to deny the present request for emergency relief, expressing no opinion on the merits of the arguments in the Motion to Intervene as to Volume I or on the United States' asserted urgency in releasing Volume I. Signed by Judge Aileen M. Cannon on 1/13/2025. (AMC) (Entered: 01/13/2025)
