Reporting on AI doomer concerns is universally terrible. 90% of the article is about this guy’s career path and hobbies. What he claims to worry about gets two sentences with poor framing (will data centers just build themselves?) and raises a ton of other unanswered questions.
Tallinn has many fears: the race between AI labs, the U.S. rivalry with China, AI’s growing ability to improve itself. He has imagined apocalyptic scenarios like AI data centers snapping up land once used for agriculture and causing mass-starvation or AI engineers altering the earth’s atmosphere, making it inhospitable to humans.

"Never admit that politicians did something you like. Always treat them like shit and never reward them for moving in tour direction" is just an insanely toxic and counter productive approach to electoral politics but a bunch of ppl on social media have convinced themselves its the best approach

Worth remembering that the two justices that were willing to throw our elections into chaos were appointed by "normal" Republicans. You cannot trust these people. Ever.

Before engaging in analogies with political parties in different countries with different histories and different political systems than ours, might be worthwhile to think what might have been had the gay marriage movement in the United States successfully adopted this strategy 20 years ago.

Nothing makes me dismiss a person’s opinions faster than hearing “Democrat Party”, especially coming from someone ostensibly on the left it’s also a tell with actual Republicans how mad they are when they slip back into saying “Democratic”, an indicator of how stupid and unnatural the former sounds

Cottle is such a halfwit. I remember doing a focus group for a terrible Crossfire-style TV show they were trying to shop with her and Rich Lowry where she was on “the left” that mercifully never made the air. 20 years later and she still has nothing of value to say.

Very cute that leftists actually think "Withholding an endorsement when I lose because I'm just so mad and also afraid my supporters will stop giving me money if I'm seen as selling out" is a universal problem

Aside from being example 5,678 of Bernie being a horrendous judge of character, it also highlights his own outsized role in clearing the field for Platner
“Everywhere I’ve gone it seems like the fabric of what holds us together is being ripped apart by billionaires and corrupt politicians profiting off destroying our environment, driving our families into poverty, and crushing the middle class,” Platner said in his announcement video.

Less than two weeks later, Senator Bernie Sanders endorsed Platner at a Labor Day rally in Portland on September 1, 2025, emailing millions of followers across the country, encouraging them to give to Platner

“We need senators in Washington who are prepared to take on the billionaire class and fight for working people,” said Sanders at Portland’s last Labor Day rally. “That is why I am proud to endorse Graham Platner for U.S. Senate."

Within a month, Platner had raised $3.2 million with Sanders’s backing. While other left candidates were considering running for Senate, Sanders’s political and financial backing of Platner dissuaded serious challengers, guaranteeing Platner the left lane of the Democratic primary against Maine Governor Janet Mills, who had angered many labor unions and progressives in the state.

Many on the left began to scratch their heads about why Sanders would endorse Platner so quickly given the combat veteran’s thin public record.

30 years in and the Mariners-Padres interleague “rivalry” still feels forced. I’m sorry but sharing a spring training facility and a connection to Eddie Vedder does not make these teams rivals.

The political theory that Nazi tattoos, calling people “r******d,” demeaning women, etc. are “working class values,” and that people who object to it should “lighten up” because working class voters who like that are the key to elections, isn’t looking great. And it was always very condescending.

It's pretty interesting seeing people adopt these symbols, but leftishly. In many ways, these leftists are accepting the moral universe of petty fascists--and also acting out their own trauma in particularly dumb ways. "Everything is high school" used to be the sole reserve of the far right.

Pump this directly into my veins: A top GOP official in Texas says, "It looks like we f***ed ourselves with our gerrymandering. We watered down all the red districts to steal as many blue ones as possible and now the electorate hates us and our turnout is collapsing." May this not be just a fluke.

And now comes the most nauseating part of this whole goddamn mess: the hypocrisy. The same loud-mouthed idiots who spent years screaming about tyranny are suddenly dead fucking silent, or worse, cheering, now that it's their side doing it. "ThEy'Re cOminG fOr OuR gUnS!" "GoVerNMenT oVerReAch!" "ShAll nOt bE inFrinGeD!" All that chest-thumping bullshit evaporated the second armed federal agents started terrorizing people they don't like.
Let me get this straight: a civilian gets shot dead by federal agents, and the only thing you brainless cunts can muster is
"well, DHS says he had a gun"? THAT'S your red line? Guns are sacred when they're strapped to your waist, but magically become a death sentence when they're used as a post-hoc excuse by the government? Either the Second Amendment applies to everyone, or you never believed in it at all. Fucking pick one and own it.
This is exactly what tyranny looks like, by the way. Not jackboots marching in formation, but armed agents roaming neighborhoods, stopping people, killing civilians, and then daring the public to question it. Tyranny is execution followed by a press release. Tyranny is labeling the dead a "threat" so the state doesn't have to explain why someone's life just ended in the street. Tyranny is demanding obedience while shredding due process and calling it order.
And all you so-called "freedom lovers" are fucking fine with it, as long as it's brown people, immigrants, protesters, or anyone you've already dehumanized. Turns out "don't tread on me" actually meant "tread on them." You weren't afraid of tyranny.
You were afraid of losing dominance. There's a difference, and this moment exposes it completely.
"Just comply" isn't a principle. It's cowardice dressed up as common sense. It's the language of people who have already accepted that the state gets to decide who deserves rights and who doesn't. And once you make that deal, don't act shocked when the line moves, because it always fuckin…

Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

“If Mr. Trump prevails” Very responsible for the Paper of Record in its “analysis” to fast forward past all the ruinous outcomes of trying this and going straight to Trump’s preferred framing of “real estate king makes deal of the century”
If Mr. Trump prevails, he will have pulled off the largest land acquisition in American history, even larger than Secretary of State William H. Seward’s negotiation in 1867, when he bought Alaska from Russia for about 2 cents an acre.

To increase the pressure on Denmark and its European allies, Mr. Trump has quickly reached for his favorite weapon of economic coercion: tariffs. A year to the week after he used his inaugural address to warn that “nothing will stand” in the way of his carrying out his America First agenda, he sounded unconcerned about the possibility of breaking up the most effective military alliance in modern history to satisfy his demand for Greenland.

He does have an easier option. A treaty between the United States and Denmark, signed in 1951 at the end of the Truman administration, gives the United States broad rights to reopen the 16 or so military bases that it once had on Greenland.

There is a strain of thinking among *some* people (epitomized by the image, below, that’s going around) that doesn’t deserve to be called liberal, progressive, socialist, whatever. I’m going to call it infantilism: the belief that an action is bad if someone, somewhere, somehow might be hurt.

From the ICE subreddit: "remember even Jesus Christ was hated for following the law."
Reddit user on ICE thread about hotel canceling reservations for ICE agents responding to another user suggesting booking Airbnbs in groups of 2 or 3: "Thank you and why does ICE has to hide? It's a FREE COUNTRY. keep up the good work, remember even Jesus Christ was hated for following the law."

Another Redditor reply: "You really aren't familiar with the Bible are you?"
