I've been itching to do a road trip for a while now, but it has been a horribly busy summer. Between weddings, graduations, funerals, and urgent repairs on the house, there hasn't been more than a couple of days in a row with nothing going on. My wife pointed out we had nearly a whole week with nothing. "Maybe we could go somewhere to see the fall colors." The Upper Peninsula of MI has lots of mixed tree forests, and it's usually a bit ahead of us in the transition to fall, so off we went. We got there at the perfect time. I don't think I've ever seen colors this vivid over such a wide area. With all the other stuff I saw and recorded as well, I have plenty to keep me busy for a while.

Although bullfinches are strongly associated with winter, they can also be seen in autumn. They do not migrate south, as their diet—seeds and berries—remains available during the cold season. In autumn, bullfinches roam through forests and parks in search of food.
