It is becoming impossible to get anywhere in this city, particularly at weekends. 41 bus unable to stop at Archway (*the actual start and end of the route* ) and nearest stop is Hornsey Rise, which is over a quarter of a mile away.

Kind of grimly fascinating as always, coming from the former director of strategy to a Labour PM. There just isn't a future for a centre-left politics that is this hostile to pretty basic progressive values.

I’m going to stop short of describing this as top tier Neil Young (I’m not convinced that it is), but I am definitely going to listen to it a whole lot more than the last Chrome Hearts record. The title track and Soon I Might Be Going are his best songs in quite a while.

“Friendship is the greatest form of protest we have.” Broken Social Scene are still an absolutely incredible band. Even a (by logistical necessity) condensed version of what they do is still going to end up being one of my favourite sets of the year.

Amidst all the LFF noise, I’d like to highlight this, directed by Theo Rollason who, as a teenager, played trumpet in the Camden Jazz Band I helped teach (with the great Nikki Yeoh). I bump into Theo frequently and I’m so delighted that this is happening. whatson.bfi.org.uk/lff/Online/d...

Ah, Dolly Parton. A beacon of aspiration and ambition, and the very best of philanthropic capitalism who repeatedly reminded us we can and must be better. Also of course a wonderful songwriter and singer. RIP.

For all the problems with trains at the moment, I’m genuinely impressed with Avanti today, who have accommodated us on an Edinburgh service from Euston after all LNER trains out of Kings X were cancelled. Good customer service.

FFS. I know this is a recurring rant but here we go anyway: No stage times anywhere in advance of this gig. Given lack of transport options today, I walked here (1 hr 20 mins or so) to be reasonably close to doors time in case of it being a two sets thing. (1/2)

The only real conclusion I would draw is maybe we should all think a bit more about how our culture uses the phone screen to separate us from the idea there are people on the other side. This is not a new observation. This is not something I’ve been particularly good at myself, either.

I am no great fan of rigid curfews, but this one is really the result of an artist with very little respect for promoters or the audience coming on stage really, really late.

The interesting thing about school closures during covid (agree with them or not) is they had much less impact on long-term academic outcomes than people expected (me included). But much more long-term impact on mental health and attendance.

Catastrophic fails from both BBC and Sky News. Sky perhaps have the fig leaf that they're not specifying what post he's resigned from, but the BBC's completely false report that Starmer has resigned as Prime Minister will fuel misinformation and yet more ill feeling towards politicians.

Whatever one’s view of Keir Starmer, I don’t see why I should have a single bit of respect for an anonymous Labour MP who speaks like this: “There are a number of us prepared to resign. I'll do what's needed to get the fucker out.”
