when i say i support state atheism what i mean is that this should just be treated as murder. i don't care what your 'faith' is the state should not be required to pretend your delusions matter when you harm someone else. same with anti-vax shit. this is just murder.

People forget that J6 was successful. Everyone who participated was let out of jail and the guy who perpetrated it is President again. There were no consequences. They have plenty of incentive to do a much bigger and worse version.

Never forget that David Ellison's Skydance Media was originally created so he could be an actor. Skydance's first film was 'Flyboys' starring James Franco and... David Ellison. David and his daddy invested $60m to make Flyboys. It grossed $17m Here's a bit of David's acting:

Today I learned Trump once tried personally booking Frank Sinatra for the 1990 opening of his Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, and Frank told his manager “You’ve got two options: either tell him to go fuck himself, or give me his number and I’ll tell him myself.”

Okay I've seen at least 2 posts today that describe Jim Bakker as "having an affair with his secretary" or "getting caught banging his secretary" and just...no. He got caught paying her off because he and another preacher *violently raped her*. That isn't an affair, or a simple "sex scandal".

I'm just gonna bookmark this for future reference when Dem pundits complain about how the party has trouble communicating its message to voters. The reason you keep running into trouble with your branding isn't campus radicals. The reason is that your opponents purchased all the media outlets.

Basically yeah, the protagonist is the main character who drives the story and the antagonist is whatever is working against them. Antagonists don’t even have to be characters, for example the tornadoes in Twister.

There’s such a massive gulf between “this character’s feelings are valid” and “this character’s actions are morally justified” that’s lost on way too many people.

It’s been a minute since the last time I heard someone with zero natural rhythm do karaoke, and I’m blessed that it was Queen’s “Fat Bottom Girls” because it’s like the platonic ideal of a straightahead 4/4 rock song.

I’m glad people are still flying the fumetti flag. I discovered it as a kid via my parents’ and uncles’ stacks of magazines and comics from the ‘60s and ‘70s, I still don’t understand why it fell out of favor.

[A tender scene in a swamp: the Swamp Thing (right, covered in tendrils and lichen), comforts a dejected young woman (left, scantily clad & dewy).

Woman: I don't care what people think, I can't go back to the life of a suburban soccer mom ...
ST: But you can't stay here, either. You know how this humidity plays havoc with your hair.
Woman: Yeah ... and my fingers and toes do get all prune-y.
ST: Skin issues, huh? Cry me a river, why don't you?

Modern analysis definitely requires looking through the lens of patriarchy and white nationalism though. It’s not directly addressed in the text because it was the early ‘90s and people weren’t thinking about that stuff, which is all the more reason to examine it now.

The scene with the Nazi was to demonstrate how his actions were indistinguishable from political extremist violence. It’s implied he’s patriotic to a fault, but in 1993 “patriotic” still meant you understood Nazis are the bad guys.

That’s an excellent modern interpretation, it definitely goes beyond the original intent. The core idea is an unstable man reacting to relatable frustrations in a way that seems cathartic at first but becomes more extreme and frightening as it goes on.

It’s like showing up 10 minutes late for work and nobody saying anything. After the first time you think “phew, I got away with it,” then after the second or third or fourth time it’s “I can just be late every day from now on and it’s fine.”

Oh I love Falling Down and am very familiar with the discourse. I was probably 14 or 15 the first time I watched it and even then the moral grayness was pretty evident, especially the part when D-FENS is finally confronted with everything and confusedly says “…I’m the bad guy?”

The best thing about physical dashboard controls even if they’re purely by-wire is you can learn to operate them purely by physical memory. Being able to adjust your a/c or turn your music down without taking your eyes off the road is important.

It’s hard to articulate how popular Reagan was and still is with Boomers and elder GenXers. He was so popular that his wildly unpopular VP was able to decisively win the 1988 primary and election based largely on Reagan’s endorsement.

also!!! literacy (and I’m using that word broadly) means understanding that a protagonist is not “a person in a work making a moral argument” in fact if a moral argument even exists, it emerges from a work as a whole; relating to a character is often a distraction from that end

Daniel “Spooky Nickname” Tirebiter @danmofftarkin.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
“Protagonist” and “antagonist” becoming synonymous with “good guy” and “bad guy” respectively has done so much damage to media literacy. 25 years of sympathetic but morally compromised leads like Tony Soprano and Walter White hasn’t helped either.
