I'm being flippant, but only just. There was very little appetite for UK universities outside of a handful because of the drop in international rankings, and far more appetite for nearby countries (who have increased) and other parts of Europe (that are more welcoming and teach in English).

This is the first grant I've been successful in. I'd been rejected from all the UK's research council schemes w/ different projects and was making my way through @leverhulme.ac.uk. I'm intensely relieved to get lucky on this one.

Universities are systematically devaluing their products to get as many students as possible to prolong their death rattle. There's going to be a serious shock this year when universities can't accommodate lectures, accommodation, module choice, etc, because their inflated numbers.
