Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 10hThere is something in the national mood that means people literally cannot refrain from being negative. A 7-0 win, Croatia's biggest defeat, is 'angrifying'. 010
Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 25/08/2026I assure you that this run of 'accept to reviews' is unheard of in the history of peer review. 2120
Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 01/08/2026This is the most fundamental question, though, of the scientific information system. Not publishing it feels incorrect, if that's the point of a 'scientific record'. But doing so just feels wrong. 010
Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 23/07/2026A part of the country's doom spiral is that before we get a chance to breathe, critical opinions (that is, not actual evidenced scepticism) is given equal airtime for any and all policy. 051

Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 27/01/2026So every year I do a short survey with my first year British Politics students. Anyway, Labour have gone from 44% to 15%. The 'other' category - mea culpa for not adding the Greens - has gone from 18% to 41%. 050

Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Labour has declined most amongst those in their 30s and early 40s. Those, generally more on the left, have known nothing but Tory and recession Labour. Starmer was a chance for change. It wasn't delivered. The anger is betrayal. 030

Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 01/12/2025On the budget. Do people, generally, think tax/spend is too high or too low? Up until July 2024, people were mixed, and by a margin probably wanted higher tax/spend. Suddenly, that flipped. After Labour won the election. This is of course driven by a huge flip amongst Conservatives. 141

Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 25/07/2025Again, inspired by bsky.app/profile/timn..., I looked at the submissions/desk rejects for the year at @jeppjournal.bsky.social. Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 24/07/2025Of those who accept, the average time taken is almost exactly on the usual deadline (30 days), but there's quite a lot of variation at both. This includes R&Rs, so a lot of the quick ones are from those -- though some do return first reviews within a week or two. 150
Daniel Devine @danjdevine.bsky.social · 24/07/2025Maybe surprisingly, a majority accept the invite. The declines are almost the same between the two journals (JEPP has an 'unavailable' option too). Just to say that the 'no response' is the worst, because it can delay things. Please respond, even (especially) if it's to say 'no'! 491
