I talk about this a lot in "Lost Worlds" - the world didn't begin with people alive today, and it won't end with people today. Apocalypticism is a wonderful way of making it so you don't have to think about the real long-term consequences of your actions. If it's all going to end, why think further?

I literally don’t know a single woman who hasn’t been raped, stalked, groped, harassed, or sexually violated in some way at some point in their life. If you choose to doubt and dox survivors, just know every woman in your life is disgusted by you.

The formatting of this Beckett quote does still represent resilience and determination, just of a very different sort.
A neon light art piece of Samuel Beckett's famous quote "I can't go on. I'll go on" but spaced - it would seem inadvertently- so that it reads "I can't goon. I'll goon".

What’s fascinating about this story is the ways in which governments, including the Australian government, *need* to rely on a narrative in which AI is truly agentic, politically, in a way that undermines enforcement even more than in the usual corporate content

Ed was in a fucked up position. He knew it. His typical apolitical stance was being challenged in a way it never had been before. He told me that the words
"Free Palestine" and the image of the Palestinian flag were hurtful to a lot of people he spoke with. I told him that if those words were more offensive than tens of thousands of Palestinian children being killed by Israel, then there was a fundamental disconnect between where those people stood and where I stood. But he couldn't get past his public facing, "I don't take sides."

Without being overly cynical, Reform supporters already said they didn't care about the £5 million bung from Harborne, and that even if it was shady, good, because 'whatever it takes' to get Farage in power. Far-right politics thrives on incoherent exceptionalism which it demands and creates.

Probably worth remembering that as a journalist employed by the public broadcaster participates in the generalised moral panic about Afghan refugees desperately fleeing the violence of the Taliban after decades of war, our own military is pushing to shield soldiers from prosecution for war crimes.

Dear friend capturing my sound design process (probably reassuring to theatre colleagues that these are the faces I make when I’m putting together three hours of increasingly insane gay guy music videos for my wedding, too). Also she made me do the Fred Durst hands I swear etc.
A black and white, candid photograph of a dismayed looking Dan, fist pressed into the right hand side of his jaw, slumped over his laptop on a table covered in snacks. As before, but Dan’s biting his nails as an out of focus Miles (a tall man with a beard and glasses) goes about probably more normal pre-wedding activities in the back of the frame. As before, but now Dan’s doing the pose from Edward Munch’s the scream; his hands cupping either side of his face.Dan in a kitchen, wearing a denim shirt with his hands in front of his face, framing it in a diamond with his thumbs and forefingers, evoking Fred Durst if Fred Durst was your bisexual dad (unconfirmed) and a massive nerd (improbable).

Also: this feels very much like an attempt to soften the blow on what might some really bad numbers. What is it that “Current EBITDA” doesn’t capture, exactly? Or is it more a problem of exactly what it captures - an unprofitable, unsustainable business that burns tend of billions of dollars?
LOOKING PAST CURRENT EARNINGS
Established companies are typically valued more heavily on earnings, or EBITDA, which gives investors a sense of the economics of the business.
For Anthropic, however, current EBITDA does not fully capture the economics investors expect the company to achieve at scale. Anthropic is spending enormous amounts on GPUs and other computing capacity, model training, inference and hiring. Those expenses are necessary to support its rapid expansion but could become a smaller percentage of revenue as the business
grows.
