Semiotic anthropologist here w/alt-text! As I tell students & everyone who will listen: One of the great lessons of anthropology is that we built this. All of it. And we choose throughout our days how we will continue or change the world we have built. We can & must build differently.
You guys....we made it all up. ALL of it.
Everything. Money. Bills. Gender.
Capitalism. Femininity. Masculinity.
Body image. The 5 day workweek.
Three meals a day. School. College.
Fashion. Expectations. Institutions.
Holidays. Traditions. Literally every single thing that we take for granted as
"just the way it's done" is fucking made up and I just feel like it's really important that we remember that.

I finally visited Ripped Bodice, the incredible romance bookstore in Brooklyn, and it was a feast for the eyes and mind, but this sign especially 🌷💃🏼👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩🌸🧞‍♀️💘🧚🏾‍♀️
a sign with flowers on it that reads “Unattended children will be given an enthusiastic explanation

"Whitey on the Moon" is also, yes, about racism, but Glover's take and the historical context provided here (I didn't know about the Abernathy protest) is interesting and worth pondering.

Happy Transgender Day of Visibility. Remember that not being visible today doesn't make you any less trans, especially if it's not safe for you to be out. #TDoV

The question that broke America fundamentally was ‘do all people deserve basic rights?’ This question was too hard for us. Too hard for our leadership. It still is. So now all of our rights are in jeopardy.

The New York Times coverage of trans issues has repeatedly resulted in experts and others complaining that their words were twisted and misrepresented... but only those quoted from on trans supportive side have that complaint. Coincidence or eliminationism? @billiejsweeney.bsky.social dives in.

Does The New York Times Want to Eradicate Trans People? — Assigned
An analysis of its coverage reveals a pattern of misrepresentations, deceptions, distortions, the exclusion of trans voices, and the endorsement of contempt.

Mina Murray (was Mina Harker in Dracula) formed the league in Alan Moore’s comic. I could totally see this for Violet (way more capable than she shows publicly to the Ton), except we’ve seen her childhood in Queen Charlotte.

Interesting insight into this ruling. Parental rights are paramount when it gives the conservatives a chance to hurt trans kids, but when supportive parents want to be trusted to manage their child’s transition, their rights don’t count.

Anything less than abolishing ICE is unacceptable. I don't want to hear people talk about training these motherfuckers or throwing more money at them. The entire institution needs to be permanently disbanded. Do not let politicians sell you on anything less.

Five corporations control 90% of the US media market. Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today. Four giants control 80% of meat processing. The evidence of corporate consolidation is everywhere. It means more power for them and less freedom for you.

Yes your taxes should support disabled people. They should support homeless people. They should support those living in poverty, children and the elderly. This is literally the purpose of taxes, and I would far rather support those who need it than continue to enrich the elite.
