This is one of the best ideas I've heard in ages.
Reddit post on r/technology about young people and AI: "I recently heard about a teacher who instead of trying to circumvent students using AI, which is impossible, she made assignments by going "ask ChatGPT to write a report on this subject, and then research how and why it's wrong".

Not only did the students discover that ChatGPT is extremely wrong a lot of the time, it also lead them to realise that they should not use it as a primary source".

My piece in The Examiner about the Rent Pressure Zone legislation and why it worries me. What it's like to be trying to rent and buy in a housing crisis borne of this government's incompetence. #Spéirgorm. I'd planned to keep my head down but then I read the companion piece to mine. See next post

This is incredible. The biggest, worst theft I’ve seen so far. Making any money as a writer is almost impossible these days, but if someone’s dipping into your earnings like this - and almost no writers earn at this level - that’s basically a heist.

While we’re on founding fathers, I think people actually *underrate* the Gothic horror of Jefferson and Sally Hemings. She was his slave, she was also his dead wife’s much younger half sister as a result of Jefferson’s father in law raping *his* slave.

Serious bird folklore. Up until the 1950s, destroying the nests of swallows & house martins was considered a grave error that led to very bad luck. I have numerous accounts. Encouraging their nesting would bring good luck to household. Let's bring this idea back.

Israel won't stop until it achieves total genocide.
Newspaper article from Al-Jazeera.

A recent poll reported that 82 percent of Jewish Israeli respondents would still like to see Gaza cleared of its Palestinian population, with almost 50 percent also backing what they said was the “mass killing” of civilians in enemy cities occupied by the Israeli army.

And on Monday, thousands of Israelis led by the country’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, rampaged through occupied East Jerusalem’s Old City, chanting “death to Arabs” and attacking anyone perceived to be either Palestinian or defending them.

Full story is linked in the quoted post.

can't put into words how devastating it is to give legal advice to trans kids who've been denied gender-affirming healthcare when I know the advice is going to be "what's happening to you is illegal, and also there is very little you or anyone else can do about it at the moment"

Today is National Biscuit Day, and it’s about time that I populated this account with biscuit (cookie) sets from the past few years. Here are some of my favourites. 🧵 First up, a set inspired by the delicious designs of William Morris and John Henry Dearle.
A set of eight rectangular cookies arranged on a square white plate against a dark wooden background. Each cookie is inspired by a wallpaper design by Morris & Co. The patterns represented feature different floral and leaf shapes in shades of baby blue, soft pink, leafy green, mustard yellow, cream, and dark grey.
