A vital blog exposes how “visa walls” quietly shape who gets heard at academic conferences. As the authors argue, “we must design our spaces to reflect the diversity of the world we hope to sustain.” Change begins with confronting what keeps people out, not through empty promises to include them.

Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop! Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels

New from Drury & Vestergren. The chapter synthesises decades of research on how participation in collective action transforms people, challenges the field’s focus on predictors, and calls for methods to trace these transformations. It also highlights prefiguration as a key future research direction.

Important polling evidence. Confirms previous census-based analysis that deprivation is a clearer driver of social distrust than is diversity. In fact, diverse areas have *higher* feelings of social cohesion and that people get along locally (once controlling for deprivation)
Bullets outlining the benefits of neihgbourhood ethnic diversity, showing that greater diversity leads to greater social cohesionChart showing greater diversity leads to greater trust and cohesion, but greater deprivation leads to lower trust and cohesion
