One reason why white nationalists get things wrong: most white people don't agree with them. They don't agree they share an exclusive white supremacist identity, and they don't agree that ethnic minorities aren't good neighbours, friends, colleagues and indeed family members - as their actions show

White people are moving into Newham, not out of it: the white population increased from 29.0% in the 2011 Census to 30.8% in 2021 This also indicates there isn't a tipping point in London below which white people won't move - plenty want to live in a diverse area (the borough grew by 43,000)

Unless I've misread this, in this scenario there would be more Green MPs representing the South West and Yorkshire and Humber than there would be in London (1)

Without taking a view on the specifics of the football drinking case, the term 'discrimination' is applied in an increasingly wide range of cases, even as the term is challenged as an explanation in areas where it has been more typically applied How to determine whether an unequal outcome is fair?

David Olusoga's new series Finding Britain's Slave Traders airs tonight at 9pm. In anticipation, we are resharing an article from Dr Michael Taylor on the West India Interest, the pro-slavery lobby in Parliament, where many members had a vested interest in the continuation of slavery.

It's (at least) 20 years since I first supported the idea of social class as a 'protected' characteristic under equality law One major challenge is not just choosing the right measure, but the fact that most preferred measures (eg NS-SEC) is not collected in many datasets and surveys

BBC coverage of Bardot's auction including her 'nightie' and the Kama Sutra was (I think?) meant to be light apolitical relief following the coverage of AfD election victories but I can't be the only one that found the successive updates jarring, not bc of the contrast but bc of unmade comparisons

You cannot be in favour of freedom and opposed to diversity Constraining people's choices to achieve homogeneity of thought/belief is not conducive to a successful or even functioning society tho it's been tried by opponents of liberty across the centuries and continents

Higher education shdt be part of any effective response to 'NEETs' (given one of the Es stands for education this shouldnt surprise). Not the whole solution, w/other educational & training pathways needing strengthening It serves no one - least of all young ppl - to see HE as always wrong for NEETs

Which all just reeks of what happens when a status order gets upended by some new technique. Basically everyone who is under threat runs around shouting “Never mind what I appeared to value before, what I *really* value is this incredibly intangible thing I possess that also preserves my status”.

Dan Chater, whose Bethnal Green constituency had a large Jewish population, was one of many MPs to warn of the scapegoating of Jews and immigrants. The Jewish peer Lord Reading warned that antisemitism was being whipped up as part of a wider attack on "the free institutions of this country".
I am convinced that this constant preaching night after night, this implanting of the idea in the minds of the people that practically all their troubles are due to the Jews who reside there, must sooner or later lead to an outbreak of disorder directed especially to the pillage and destruction of Jewish property.
I have watched the whole growth of this kind of propaganda in the East End and I am not afraid to state that, observing it as carefully as one can, it coincides in every particular with the methods, the manner of the propaganda and the psychology which was created in other lands and which led to the establishment of dictatorships there.

The question of *why* we have seen such a dramatic increase in ethnic minority educational attainment in Britain is too little asked From the 1960s to early 1990s there was a large literature seeking to explain the under-achievement of minority children that is now apparently long forgotten

One point the second fact highlights: migrants, as with UK born, live in neghbourhoods, in places, or very much in a 'somewhere'. Because they were born elsewhere or because they moved once (or more) doesn't magically make anyone disconnected from the places where they live

13 million people who live in this country were born overseas. Their/our safety and belonging should not be in dispute, though most of them/us are aware that violence against their/our person is increasingly justified, and is too little condemned.

Moral relativism about the past and also about the present is the default position of those who reject universal humanity. They don't think moral obligations or dignity and respect apply to all, so it's no surprise they also don't think rules or standards apply equally to all
