I read in a Guardian article that Subh Milis was taught to children to discourage them from emigrating. Not sure about that but emigration is an interesting context for what issues resonated with adults that they wanted children to know. Any ideas why we all learned it? #speirghorm

Irish friends, remember the poem Subh Milis about anticipatory grief of a child leaving home? We learned it in national school and it seemed unlikely to resonate yet we knew it was achingly sad My daughter's finally tidy room now that she has left for uni is my aching subh milis 😭 #speirghorm

This is much worse than the usual sort of behaviour the media will hound a person to death for. I wonder why the same pile-on hasn't happened to Orr. Can't imagine...

The elitism and entitlement and white supremacy - not just Orr who thinks he can get away with it, but Cambridge Heads and so-called leaders who think they can get away with turning a blind eye. It is not only cambridge but elitism is such a brain-rotting aspect of all this. I'm so sick of it

Ohhh, sad news of a true scholar. I heard Danziger give a scintillating keynote on "the holy grail of universality" (in psychology), in the mid 2000s, feeling my thinking processes morphing and growing. No ppt, read from a written script, and i think the best keynote i've attended. 💔

So "Humanist superintelligence" is supposed to make this all more palatable - but guided by *which human interests*? As far as I remember, humans argue quite a lot over that and use force a lot too to determine which interests get prioritised www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I recently reviewed 2 fluently written mss with a reasonably promising central idea, ticking all the boxes, and a smattering of vague recycled concepts without a central thread, sense of driving purpose, passion or individual turns of phrase. I may have to resign from reviewing. Dystopia is here.

What you're saying when you say "DEI" when universities say "EDI" (as happens here) and vice versa. And why it actually matters. The great majority of UK (esp. British) universities use "EDI" while US universities use "DEI". Is that "just" semantic, or does it matter? A thread. 🧵1/8

Plenty to reflect about re: the Arday affair, but I'm going to repeat this one thing. The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. I've been calling it "Trojan horse propaganda", let's go with that. 1/
