My life for the past two years has been reading about a tire fire just close enough to my house to really matter but slow enough that I can do things like play board games. It's...a special kind of disorienting I don't know how to fully describe.

The Toocheke dev has released an option to pull a tapas site into a wordpress website using their plugin. Wordpress isn't the only option when it comes to websites, but this feature should make it a lot easier for people to make the switch to a website if they want.

I do not use AI. Not even a drop. I loathe it. I try put as much human touch as I can. If I could make vector art without a computer I would. If I could reasonably make stickers by hand I would. I want you to spot pieces of my fingerprints in smudges and stains along the edges of whatever I make.

RSS didn't die of old age. It was murdered for profit because it didn't serve targeted ads. The Weird Internet Codex 003 is out. A guide to pulling your own signal, hunting buried feeds on the indie web, and escaping the dopamine drip.
THE TRAP: The Trough, Not The Feed

Let’s get one thing straight: the "Feed" on your phone isn't a feed. It’s a trough. And you’re the livestock.

The algorithm isn't an accident; it's a behavioral Skinner box. Silicon Valley didn't just wire us to the trough by accident. They patched human nature with a dopamine exploit, and the original builders leaked the source code of their own guilt.

Sean Parker, Facebook’s founding president, admitted they built a "social validation feedback loop" that explicitly exploits a "vulnerability in human psychology."

Aza Raskin, the designer who invented the infinite scroll, now says he feels like he "unleashed a monster" and compares the feature to behavioral cocaine.

Nir Eya, wrote Hooked, the literal startup playbook half the Valley keeps on their desk. It explicitly teaches developers how to build habit-forming products using "variable rewards." The exact same mechanic that keeps lab rats pressing levers for food pellets.

They aren't showing you what you want to see. They are showing you what keeps you swiping. The Timeline:

1999: RSS is born. The open web communicates.
2005: Atom standardizes it. The golden age of blogrolls.
2013: Google assassinates Google Reader because it didn't serve targeted ads.

It didn't die of old age. It was murdered for profit. We're taking it back.

THE TOOLS: Choose Your Level of Custody

You need a deck. A terminal. A place to aggregate the signal without the noise.

When you're picking an RSS reader, the real axis isn't "free vs. paid" or "open source vs. proprietary." The real axis is Custody. Who holds the keys to your input stream? Who can see what you're reading, and who can shut it off if you violate a Terms of Service agreement?

Here is the spectrum. Pick your rig.

Private website ownership is not only still possible in 2026 but also cheaper and easier than it’s ever been. I cannot underscore this enough lol. It can be as cheap as 9 a year for the domain if your hosting is free (otherwise can be under 10/mo) and as easy as using a template

It makes me rethink how much wide-eyed "everything is fine" 50s shows and stories had this thick, glossy veneer I couldn't understand. It felt so fake. But it followed a tidal wave of trauma. I know it's a different scale. But it's chilling.

debuting as part of @aftermath.site's hater week, here's my list of (so far) over 50 video game studios that are rejecting generative AI, each with their rationale for doing so
D-CELL Games
Games: Unbeatable

Steam page

“Even if I’m just looking at this in the cold mercenary MBA freak way—the ‘I want to generate income as much as possible’ way—you can’t make a thing people want to buy if the thing you want to buy is the same thing everyone else has. And that’s what you fucking get with AI models. It’s definitionally part of how they work.

So all using [AI] will do is make you compete worse. You have to do laps on a hamster wheel to arrive at the opposite conclusion. Because the only way to actually make money on this shit besides a pump-and-dump is to be the guy selling the shovels. And even the shovels are starting to rust.

Even the stuff that sounds good or looks good for a given value of ‘good’ (i.e. it convincingly looks at a glance like it wasn’t generated with a machine, it’s ‘professional’) is only capable of spitting out inputs that existed before. You can feel it in the ‘choices’ it makes, because it doesn’t make choices; it chooses a value with a weight given by a model patched from every work at once on fast forward. The nutritional value of AI work is approximately identical to watching a 2000s horror movie trailer compilation at 4X speed while second-screening Maury transcriptions. It might be fun to look at, but it will kill you on the inside."
