Read this thrilling article by Nadja Durbach on letters to the General Records Office UK. Parents tried to change children's birth certificates that revealed illegitimacy, as the documents became a form of ID in the 1920s and 30s: academic.oup.com/tcbh/article.... Each letter is such a family story

The kickback against MeToo shows how backward women’s safety has gone. When you show assault, the denials are as deafening as they are false. And it’s not a surprise - we said it would happen, it happened. We were called scaremongers. Now imagine their revenge for queer rights, for trans rights…

Hope Cleves’ work Unspeakable is a slow, recurring, incredible read for me. Popular history publishers want to advance a discovery narrative but never to pay for sustained slow archival work. They want to deny the academic and archival expertise it takes. And their authors are paid to cut corners.

These stories are piling up of "popular" writers "discovering" history that is "untold", but not mentioning that they found the history in a published historical monograph and/ or unpublished dissertation. It's beyond using "untold" loosely. It's dishonest.

Do you see how they talk about trans women on the front of national newspapers in the UK. These 'men' are trans women with GRCs. "NHS hospitals defy trans guidance "Men with gender recognition certificates to use female-only facilities despite court ruling" [Telegraph front page]
NHS hospitals defy trans guidance

NHS hospitals will allow biological men who are transgender to use female-only wards and lavatories despite a Supreme Court ruling against the practice. West London NHS Trust has instructed patients that they can use single-sex facilities based on their “legal gender”. It specifically states that this can include those who have a gender recognition certificate (GRC), which transgender people can obtain to change their registered gender legally.NHS hospitals defy trans guidance
Men with gender recognition certificates to use female-only facilities despite court ruling

Claire Coutinho said the NHS was flouting the law
NHS hospitals will allow biological men who are transgender to use female-only wards and lavatories despite a Supreme Court ruling against the practice. West London NHS Trust has instructed patients that they can use single-sex facilities based on their “legal gender”. It specifically states that this can include those who have a gender recognition certificate (GRC), which transgender people can obtain to change their registered gender legally.

NHS hospitals will still allow biological men who are transgender to use femaleonly wards and lavatories despite a Supreme Court ruling against the practice, The Telegraph can disclose.

West London NHS Trust has instructed patients that they can use single-sex facilities based on their “legal gender”.

It specifically states that this can include those who have a gender recognition certificate (GRC), which transgender people can obtain to change their registered gender legally.

This means someone born a man who is trans and has a GRC will be allowed into women’s-only spaces.

Critics say the new policy is inconsistent with the Supreme Court’s ruling that the term sex in the Equality Act 2010 refers to biological sex. This has been widely interpreted as meaning that people who were born men should not be allowed to use female facilities.

West London is one of the first NHS trusts known to have updated its policies in light of the court ruling. However, it continues to assert that “legal gender” supersedes sex.

Campaigners for women’s rights say the trust’s policy risks setting a dangerous precedent that could undermine efforts to establish protected spaces.
