The obvious problem here is that the organization negotiating and overseeing Microsoft's compliance with "AI guardrails" is funded by Microsoft. A less obvious problem is that this is a union initiative that, because it is run as a separate org, seems outside of union democratic governance.

OK I read the Atlantic piece by the ex-Bates professor. 1) there are infinite resources for those willing to write from personal experience in the genre of the "ex-left" expose; 2) unionization helps adjuncts, promoting reverse discrimination complaints or quitting tenure track jobs doesn't.

“The question is less where unions stand on AI or other forms of technology, and more how they organize to resist the unsafe and unethical use of automation at work,” he told Truthout. “Unions need to invest in strategic research and organizing to support workers most likely to be negatively impacted by employers’ adoption of AI-powered technology — both at work, and in building political power sufficient to prevent the unethical and unsafe use of new technology. Beyond just regulating AI, unions should push for full employment and/or universal income policies to mitigate the disruptions to people’s lives that AI-related layoffs are already having.”

I know writers who: -wrote their first book/ got tenure by elaborating on someone else's digital history -published a book based on a dissertation before its author could publish his own work (but cited it) -wrote multiple textbook chapters that paraphrased monographs (cited but barely mentioned)

These stories are piling up of "popular" writers "discovering" history that is "untold", but not mentioning that they found the history in a published historical monograph and/ or unpublished dissertation. It's beyond using "untold" loosely. It's dishonest.
