A world where a twist ending is repurposed as a video title. where a thing's climax has been removed, leaving an advertisment for the gap where it used to be. such things are commonplace in. the twilight zone

What I'm listening to today: "verZion", Syphus I like how this track works around the monophonic limitations of the tracker by arranging successive long-tail notes in a staircase pattern. The tracker playback display itself becomes a form of accompanying visual art www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKhU...

I think England is in more trouble playing Mexico in the round of 16 than they quite realize. I doubt they've had a match at 7,000 feet any time recently. The second half will be hard for them.

Londoners, there is a webpage for you to see where your nearest "cool spaces" are when the extreme heat hits - places with water, air-conditioning & shade. Have a look and spread the word, especially to those who may need this but might not think to look for it: apps.london.gov.uk/cool-spaces/

British politics is particularly good for this. Most coverage (and reaction to coverage) relies on assuming the information presented is important, making your reaction to that information also important. It's just dust in the wind. At least until September.

The part of "everyone becomes a manager" in AI that I didn't really think about until now was the mental fatigue of context switching and keeping many tasks going at once, which of course is one of the hardest parts of being a manager and now you all get to enjoy it too

My guess: the BOM got taken for a ride by Accenture, who turned a $20M contract into a $62M contract, because BOM didn't have empowered technologists who knew better. I've got no special knowledge here—this is just how these projects tend to go.

I think about the Enron Corpus sometimes if I hear about chats on Signal, or redacted information under subpoena, or even just fragmented business communications. It was the first, last, and possibly only holistic view into how a corporation communicates with itself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enron_C...

If you believe NIMBYs are bad in every other circumstance (which I agree with) then maybe the problem isn't excessive power consumption, it's poorly planned power supply.
