It's striking that progressives like Tim Walz and Zohran Mamdani evoke the middle American attitude that, "Yes, we can fix these social problems because we're Americans and it's the right thing to do!" While the "America first" right only emulates failed and failing nation-states elsewhere.

Nothing sums up the Beltway media like them watching an election a year ago and deciding that the 2000 year Reich was here and showing up to work in Hugo Boss uniforms and seeing the very next election a year later and deciding that we're living in the third film in a star wars trilogy

Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same

Given that anyone with a brain ought to recognise how many “national dishes” were impossible pre-Columbian Exchange, it’s nice to finally see pushback on the inherently ethnonationalist/racist claim that some cultures have “authentic dishes” and other “parasitic” cultures only “steal” them

The tell is when the "free speech" warrior's argument equates to "the people criticizing me are silencing me and should therefore be made to shut up." It's a pretty obvious tell; makes you wonder about those who keep falling for it time after time after time. Or maybe not wonder so much.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Imagine it's 1850 and you've just been flattened by an elite cavalry officer who just yells "SOWWY" as he thunders away.
Screenshot of a tweet:

British cavalry in the 1850s consisted entirely of twinks who used UwU-speak...
[Photo of a book page] "The dash of British cavalry officers was never greater than at the opening of the Crimean campaign in the spring of 1854. These aristocratic horsemen were, in the idiom of the day, "plungers," "tremendous swells." They affected elegant boredom, yawned a great deal, spoke a jargon of their own, pronouncing "r" as "w," saying "vewwy," "howwid," and "sowwy," and interlarded sentences with loud and meaningless exclamations of "Haw, haw." Their sweeping whiskers, languid voices, tiny waists, laced in by corsets, and their large cigars were irresistible, frantically admired, and as frantically envied. Magnificently mounted, horses were their passion; they rode like the devil himself, and their confidence in their ability to defeat any enemy single-handed was com-plete. Cavalry officers were saying in London drawing-rooms that to take infantry on the campaign was superfluous; the infantry would merely be a drag on them, and had better be left at
home."

Craziest thing? Lot of these guys don't even like the type of women they claim to. They just like the woman they're suppose to like despite not particularly caring about them, because it's about the status and social currency of being/having/lusting over a "Perfect object" and not a real person.

The problem isn't that men don't have people who will sleep with them (because a lot of women like weird dudes) and more that many of the dudes I've met who complain about this- have obsessive fantasies about specific women completely out of their league who they've never even spoken to.

Women’s status is very rapidly eroding—in their civil rights protections, healthcare, access to the public sphere, and the cultural support for their independence and dignity. But there is no feminism: our public gender discourse is divided between transphobia and handwringing about man’s feelings.

This is the canonical version of it:
Tumblr post by "gefdreamsofnhesea":

Hot take of the day: a worrying number of leftists are actually just Evangelical Christians with the serial numbers filed off

The world is sinful/a capitalist hellscape but we just have to wait until the Second Coming/the Revolution happens when everything will be magically fixed. Any attempt to make actual progress makes you a lukewarm Christian/liberal anything less than the Apocalypse/the Revolution (which we are forever waiting for btw) is completely useless . Also consuming certain media or makin certain lifestyle choices is sinful and unchristian/bad praxis.

Reply from "figtreeandvine":

There's also a common obsession with an ideal "prelapsarian" past-Eden before the apple in Evangelicals' case, life before colonialism, industrialism, capitalism, Christianity, agriculture(!) in some leftists' case.
