www.freep.com/story/opinio... When Detroit’s paper of record can only print the reader letters supporting the Democrat or nobody because both the ones supporting the Republican are too racist to merit inclusion. Fits with how Rogers has run his campaign, I suppose. He will learn 0 lessons here.

Italicized text reading: “Editor's note: In letters sent after the Oct. 8 U.S. Senate debate between Abdul El-Sayed and Mike Rogers, most writers either viewed the debate as a wash, or believed El-Sayed was the winner. We strive to present a fair reflection of reader sentiment when publishing letters to the editor, but the two letters from readers who considered Rogers the winner contained racial and ethnic slurs ‒ as well as demonstrably false claims about El-Sayed ‒ and thus did not meet our standards for publication.”

Since this thing got so many notes: no Substack or SoundCloud here, but you can buy my 33 1/3 about Cowboy Bebop from @bloomsburyacademic.bsky.social and also if you’re in my home state of Michigan, please vote for Abdul El-Sayed for Senate! If you’re not, donate! Do it for the porch goose

"Passed through" can mean either "drove through but didn't leave the car except for a rest stop" (WV) or "had a layover in an airport there" (AZ and MO). I'm not sure what is the threshold for "stayed a while," I counted Vermont since I was there a couple months at the Middlebury Japanese School

Another good one from him is when he said Trump “looks like a cutie” — my sister and brother-in-law were horrified until they realized he meant these

Did IASPM-US this past weekend in DC. It's fun when you get to combine the primary and secondary research interests! Will be talking more about Britishness and music through a Japanese lens in my paper at Music and the Moving Image (in NYC in May), focused on Pokemon Sword and Shield

PowerPoint slide on "1960s British Rock Reception in Japan" (title), featuring bullet point text on left and images of The Beatles (in concert in Tokyo, 1966) and Japanese rock group The Spiders on the right. Bullet points are:
British Invasion had a vibrant fandom from early on in Japan – and continues to this day
The Beatles’ concert at the Budokan (1966)
“Group sounds” musical genre
Later genres influenced by 1960s sounds (Shibuya-kei)
Resonances of British-Invasion-style rock music in anime and manga

Even Oxford, Mississippi can’t get enough of Heated Rivalry! 🏳️‍🌈🏒 (Square Books rules, well worth a stop if you’re ever in the area)

A bookstore shelf showcasing the top selling books. Several titles from Rachel Reid’s Game Changers series are displayed prominently, and it is clear people have been buying them based on the stock relative to other books

This is a call-out post for this man, who followed me around the house screaming until I pet him, then licked exactly where I touched the second my back was turned

This cat, Sanford, decided that because he is awake and full of energy early on a Saturday morning, everyone else should be too (Pic is from a few days ago. He begged hard for those crumbs of roast beef but then didn’t eat them)
