Had someone in upper management refer to the 3 months of overtime that something like 300+ engineers worked as "a new way of doing business" and I don't think he realizes how deeply he's loathed and how unlikely we're going to do anything to bail him out of his next disaster. It spans industries.

Putting half the active user base on a massive block list then casually mentioning that your lead programmer no longer works for the company. That's the bluesky way

Not NYC, but the Northeast - hearing country music in Logan and elsewhere in greater Boston earlier this year was jarring. I understand the genre, but. Not here. Hearing it in particularly fancy bits of Cape Cod was so dissonant. Why is this playing in a high end seafood restaurant?

I think we need to differentiate between “AI uses a lot of water!” (not necessarily bad on its own) and “AI stresses local water supplies” (a potentially real issue). The distinction is important because even “modest” use can cause serious issues, especially given the locations of data centers

It's not *just* the water usage, but how polluted the water is when it comes *out* of data centers. Nothing quite like dumping a high concentration of PFE forever chemicals and other nasty stuff into watersheds. It's sure as hell not pristine on the way out and into our drinking water.

There's a software engineer in the loop for most of these clicking "yes, execute that command" (or they've foolishly & negligently) turned off that "safety" step. ...and because the engineers don't actually *know* anything, they've got no understanding of the command(s) they're about to run

Graphic text: Statement by Arienne Childrey, ODP Pride Caucus Vice Chair (writing strictly in a personal capacity; opinions are her own and not endorsed by the caucus or ODP). "In 2025, I was proud to be elected Vice Chair of the ODP Pride Caucus. I take my responsibility to represent the LGBTQ+ community—and, as a trans woman, especially the trans community—very seriously. I am deeply disturbed by the concerted effort by the Ohio Democratic Party to silence fellow Democrats attempting to hold candidates accountable for anti-trans positions and advertising. Twice today, a mild, respectful statement from a county party was deleted from the Pride Caucus social media channels. Let me be explicit: these deletions were not executed by the Pride Caucus. They were carried out directly by the Ohio Democratic Party itself, overreaching to censor our platform. That statement didn't attack the congresswoman; it simply asked her to discontinue her anti-trans ads. Apparently, even that basic demand for human dignity is too much for ODP leadership. This censorship must be called out. The only thing more disgusting than a Democrat leaning into transphobic messages for a perceived electoral advantage is a state party apparatus that steps in to silence the people criticizing that behavior.I have no doubt some within leadership would love for me to resign to make their lives easier. But it has never been my job to make the lives of bureaucrats—who trade on trans rights like a commodity—easier. My job is to fight for my community and ensure we are represented. I will continue to do exactly that, even when it makes the 'powers that be' uncomfortable. A Democratic Party that abandons the marginalized is a soulless party. I won't stop trying to save the heart and soul of this party, I won't be silenced, and I won't allow the voices of our community to be silenced." This statement is personal commentary and is not paid for or authorized by any campaign committee.

In Ohio, Acton's disgusting statements and behavior is clearly aligned with this and it should be *punished*. There's no way I'm voting for the Republican or the libertarian candidate, but man it really makes me not want to vote for that position. Thanks Ohioans for giving me three bad options.

The bad news: the push pollers and PACs turned the bigotry up to 11 this time around. Google's happy to take money from SLF PAC to run crazy racist and anti-lgbtq ads. I hope everyone that donates to SLF PAC ends up in a re-education camp. Oh cool, it's the Republic Senate. Fuck them.

The Montgomery County (OH) GOP did run one of the most bigoted ads I'd ever seen the one time we tried watching something on Tubi during November. Happy to see the very moderate dem won a seat on city council instead of the frothing racist (fuck you Oakwood and Montgomery county GOP).

I wouldn't say it's the best part of living in a purple or red state, but it does give me great satisfaction to fuck with push pollers if I have the free time. Absolutely annoying to deal with and one of the reasons we don't watch cable TV. The ads, my god the ads...

One thing that irks me re:LLM hype is that in the inevitable collapse, there will be pushback in using neural networks in legitimately useful ways. The classic hyperplane separator use-case is great. You want to approximate solutions with a high dimensional space? They're a great tool to try.
