Today is Transgender Day of Visibility. Solidarity today and everyday with trans and non-binary folk who claim space unapologetically. As governments turn trans visibility into a matter of “ideology,” we must refuse to see trans lives as a debate and instead nurture trans joy, safety, and belonging.

And reminder that among the amazing things about Paper Trails, the variety of formats the BOOC invites is very expansive 🗃️
Research stories (8-10,000 words): We encourage a focus on research stories to invite a more reflective methodology, offering a more inclusive and engaged commentary on the work involved in researching, ordering, and preserving the past. This section will consist of double-blind peer-reviewed academic articles.
• Co-Production (flexible word count): Outputs from projects in which non-academic partners, undergraduate and taught postgraduate participants collaborate with others (collection professionals, academics, members of the public etc) to create new work that is based on research collections.
• Collection Profiles (500 words): This stream consists of shorter, descriptive or even narrative pieces that highlight items or collections of interest. This may be a prelude to a piece of in-depth research, but it does not necessarily need to be.
• Engagement (2,000 words): Reflective pieces that focus on a broad range of engagement activities, from the professional's perspective.
These can be case studies, or 'think pieces' on particular skills or techniques. They should inform professional practice.

In light of recent correspondence and the open letter shared with us following the UK Supreme Court ruling on the definition of 'sex' under the Equality Act, we are sharing the following joint statement from the Council for British Archaeology, the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA), and University Archaeology UK.

"Archaeology should be a discipline where everyone feels welcome and empowered to participate. Our organisations are firmly committed to promoting inclusion by identifying and removing barriers to engagement, and by fostering a sense of belonging for all individuals. We are grateful to everyone who has taken the time to engage thoughtfully with this issue. Within our respective organisational remits, we are working to ensure that all individuals can contribute equally to working in, learning about and celebrating our wonderful discipline."

- CIFA, CBA, and UAUK

The CBA will be responding to the Equality and Human Rights Commission consultation in due course. In the meantime, we will continue to share resources and guidance to support all aspects of equality, diversity, and inclusion across the archaeology sector on our website. If you have been affected by recent developments or are looking for support, we encourage you to explore these materials and reach out to the helplines available https://lnkd.in/e9BZDSd9
