On August 22nd, in Oregon, Benjamin Parker (36) killed 5 and himself. He killed his girlfriend, her grandmother, her mother, her friend, and her friend’s boyfriend. He also killed the family’s pets. Before killing himself he allegedly told his mother it was premeditated.

I know “Anglo-Saxon” is a dog whistle. But it irritates me to no end how incorrect its users are about the history of the Angles, Saxons, Jutes, etc. in England.

Maybe we should ask some of the parents who are part of this plunging statistics rates why their kids aren’t vaccinated. I’d be willing to bet we won’t hear any more MAHA-level nonsense than what was already there and instead we’ll hear a lot of, “I’ve been trying, but…” 4/4

By not fixing our broken healthcare system we’re going to make an already bad problem even worse. People who want vaccines won’t be able to get them. Or they won’t be able to get them when they need them. These delays will contribute to the problem. 3/4

Rather it’s a an issue of a lack of access to healthcare - yes, even for children who are insured! An annual checkup has a 3 month waitlist. Which means my kid started school without a recommended booster dose of Tdap and HPV. People haven’t grown more anti-vaccine, but 2/4

I see this constantly framed as a “people are so stupid” issue. But that’s not what I’m seeing in my community. Healthcare access and expense is making it difficult to see a doctor - a lack of regular checkups delays or causes vaccine doses to be missed. This isn’t a philosophical issue, but 1/4

My state’s gov workforce is officially hybrid (if possible) with each state agency or department being able to set their own specific requirements. It’s opened up state employment to me - a mom of 2 who doesn’t want to leave her community to live in the capital. I WFH and commute 1x/week.

I am a mellenial. My great-aunt died of whooping cough at the age of 4. My mother had the pertussis vaccine. My mother’s teeth are damaged from her case of childhood measles. I had the measles vaccine. I’ve had shingles twice. My kids had chickenpox vaccine. Vaccines are that recent.

This is a scam being run by Trump for his cronies. The coal industry knows there isn’t enough coal left to extract economically to “rebuild”. The idea is to pump a bunch of $$ into their pockets then dump the resulting financial mess on the American taxpayer. They’ll be richer; we’ll be poorer.

The Democrats have a choice. They can either embrace the demographic shift within their party and the push towards progressive politics. Or, they can watch the party crumble like GOP has (although not the same way).

Yes, because by assaulting her you showed her exactly what would happen (and implied it’d be worse next time) if she didn’t cook you dinner and otherwise be “nice” to you. Anyone who knows anything about how assault works would know this isn’t a defense but an admission.

One thing that irritates me to no end is the casual religion of the myth that Trump is a successful businessman. He’s not. And never has been by any reasonable measure. He’s a successful marketer of the Trump name. That’s it. Otherwise he’s a second-rate real estate mob boss.

The polar opposite reactions here to the deaths of Sam Neill and Lindsey Graham are such a reminder that we all have a choice whether to live our lives in a way that brings joy or misery to those around us. I think if you’re remembered fondly as Sam Neill is today, you’ve pretty much won at life.

To my previous post, this will likely become Polis’s Gerald Ford moment. I think the nation’s anger over Trump’s pardons is contributing to our frustration with Polis. It’s hard to see the why in Polis’s decision because of all the layers here.

Last time I checked, our words are protected constitutionally. Even Tine Peters’s snake oil conspiracy theory words. Four and a half with parole is far more appropriate for the crime. Don’t confuse what Jared Polis did to what Trump did to the J6ers. Jared Polis did the right thing.

And no one is disputing that. He commuted her sentence to 4.5 years down from 9 years. And ordered her out on parole - that’s hardly a green light (or a pardon). She was a 1st time non-violent offender who is 70. And she got her sentence because of her damaging “words”.

To follow on: when a politician asks a question and allows a non-answer what they indicate to me is that it’s more important to get their soundbite of the question itself than it is to get an answer. Which then, in turn, means the actual answer is moot. But it’s not! We want the answer!!
