Some strategists this week saw the September inflation numbers building a stronger case for an October move. Still, delivering a rate increase six days before an election that wasn't priced in by markets (given any lack of effort to lay the groundwork for such a move) would be politically risky.

I'll add his reach also tells you just how sui generis he was. You could see references to him or his ideas in mainstream economics papers or heterodox ones, in theoretical academic work or technical papers from central bankers or market strategists. His ideas (and charm) were infectuous to all.

Warsh says AI is going to "fundamentally change the conduct of monetary policy" by improving forecasts. "We torture data with old-fashioned models to try to find out what's underlying inflation trends. Not so long from now, it won't be torture."
