"But the handicapped need cars!" No, what they need are options in mobility. The tech exists to enable their freedom of independent mobility, but almost always what is lacking is the enabling infrastructure. Bike lanes and quality sidewalks serve everyone.

Yup. Writing is thinking. So if you write a shitty first draft, you did some thinking and are on your way! If you got “AI” to write the draft, you haven’t thought AND now you’re trying to fix up what some non-thinking robot “thought.” You just put yourself 30 yards behind the starting line.

Another day, another time I'm telling a nonfiction author that facts follow feelings. People take an interest in facts when they have strong feelings associated with them. People also remember abstract ideas better when they have clear images and examples. sesquiotic.com/2024/11/08/f...

If you've used my drawn statement on Ai for a class or other Ed context – I'd appreciate learning a bit about that (here or directly), I'd like to document a bit of where it's ended up. And if it's new to you, feel free to make use of it, all online here! Tnx! spinweaveandcut.com/fall-2025-sy...
my statement on Ai from the mini-comic I'm making as syllabus for a new class I'm teaching this fall. It's simple, but I pretty much said all I have to say on it - it robs you of decisions and struggle - and the joy of being surprised. It robs you of learning...

a snippet of a mini-comic, at top - straight line stretches from point A to B. Immediately below, same dot at A, then becomes a curving, meandering line that winds through the page and ends at a point with rays and a question mark emanating from it. Text reads: "Nothing can do this for you - for that robs you of experience and conflates answers with learning. Rather, it's all the decisions you make along the way, the mistakes, struggles, and surprises! These pathways you create - this is learning.

A thread for the day: Folks, things are tough out there. Many are stressed, anxious, angry. Try to be kind—to yourself, first. See if you can quiet your negative thoughts & self-criticisms. And then maybe we can all try directing some of that kindness, joy & compassion out into the world as well
