Long-eared Owls chicks 4 weeks old leave the nest at 26 days and climb and huddle together on branches fed by their parents. They develop flight feathers and are able to take short flights at 5 weeks of age. They will be 15 cm when full grown. Live across the North America, Europe, Asia, N Africa

This offering is doing double-duty: #SeaBird for #BirdOfTheDay and #BlueSkyMonday I’m not great at 100% reliable gull IDs, but think this one’s a Ring-billed Gull. Whatever it is, it cut an elegant figure as it glided gracefully against the vibrant #bluesky #gulls #birds #coastalgeorgia #birdsky

A lovely gull glides under a immaculate deep blue sky. The black ring near the tip of the beak and the black wing tips with small white spots suggest this is a Ring-billed Gull.

While they are not as pervasive as Laughing Gulls in our local beach ecosystem, they are fairly common. In general, our gulls in coastal Georgia still feel pretty wild —they pretty much leave you and your snacks alone when you are enjoying the beach 😊
