Farm workers are being hunted down and the public is at risk. Representatives elected by Californians need to represent Californians. Our members are the backbone of the CA-22 district, where they have jobs and homes and families. Farm workers belong here. ICE agents and David Valadao do not.

By repeating this lawless and racist lie, Rep. Valadao proves himself either irreparably ignorant, maliciously dishonest, or both. Terrorized communities are being slandered and called criminals by their own congressional representative, who is too much of a coward to defend his own constituents.

The UFW knows from the direct experience of our members that this is not only false, it is insulting. Our impacted union members are not being asked for by name, nor are they shown warrants or any other justification for being detained. They are being stopped because they look like farm workers.

These farm workers are not criminals. These are hard-working, long term members of our communities, being unlawfully and violently targeted simply for looking Latino and working class. The reckless and chaotic tactics being used are a danger to public safety and in clear violation of the law.

To be quite honest, this is a seriously concerning outlook. While it remains true that El Niño, even a very strong one, "tilts the odds" rather than guaranteeing outcomes, the current forecast suggests one heck of an odds tilt toward wet conditions--perhaps problematically so.

Notably, only *one* out of 51 model members (~2%) shows a drier-than-average winter in CA. So the odds of a dry winter, while still not zero, are *very* low--likely as low as we are ever going to see looking forward from any October. Again, this is extraordinary.

All of this is indicative of a profound shift in the projected underlying cool season precipitation distribution in California. In southern California, the shift vs typical conditions is so dramatic that it essentially looks like that of a different climate region.
Blue histograms show 51 forecast members; dashed gray histograms show historical model members. Both use unsmoothed 25-percentage-point bins and integrate to one. Regional means are 165%, 194%, 226%; 10, 17, 11 members exceed the Northern, Central, and Southern California record ratios. These are uncalibrated model outcomes.

In fact, along California coast (and yes, this include most of northern as well as central/southern CA), the ECMWF odds of an extremely wet winter (top 10% wet) are around 80-90%! Some, though not most, ECMWF members even explicitly indicate potential for record wet conditions.
The left panel shows the fraction of 51 members exceeding the model 90th percentile. The right shows fractions exceeding the observed record ratio after each source is divided by its own average. The right panel zooms to California and its surroundings. Gray denotes unavailable observations; two coastal cells use fixed nearest-land proxies. These are uncalibrated model outcomes.

So, I crunched the numbers. The ECMWF indicates odds of at least one extremely (>200% of avg) month are above 50% in all CA regions, and odds of at least one very wet (>150%) month are 90-100% in all regions. The odds of *multiple* 150%/200% months are also strikingly high.
Bar charts for December–March show the fraction of 51 October-initialized members with at least one qualifying month. Northern, Central and Southern California respectively: above 150 percent of average in 46, 48 and 50 members; above 200 percent in 31, 40 and 45; above the historical monthly record-ratio threshold in 5, 11 and 13. Thresholds apply to regional-average precipitation. Fractions are uncalibrated.

The Oct 1 ECMWF seasonal update is even wetter in California during Jan-Mar, and w/higher confidence, vs Sep 1 update. Nov/Dec are certainly leaning wet, but the real signal doesn't emerge until Jan-Mar. Jan and Feb have especially high potential to be extremely wet in CA.
Ensemble-mean maps for December 2026–March 2027, with each month compared with its own model average. The shared scale ends at 250%; higher values use its darkest blue.

Just did some number crunching using latest (Oct 1) ECMWF seasonal data, and I must say that I've never seen such high predictive confidence in a very wet California winter. This is a truly extraordinary forecast amid a record-strength El Niño event. [Thread: please read to end.]

Figure 1: Timeline of DHS and DOJ press releases since July 5, 2026 detailing charges of alleged non-citizen voting. The black line shows the total number of X posts per day related to the charges and/or press releases, while the drop lines indicate the timing of the press releases themselves.
