Ready for something super cute? Linwood Library are doing their bit for Civics education with a lil election booth for kids and they vote on… best pet animal! 😍 ^MT
Display stand with 8 A4 posters in different colours advertising different animals, each with a punny slogan. Animals include cat, turtle, dog, horse, axolotl, guinea pig, ant farm, and fish. The slogan for fish is “Any fin is possible”, lol. Cardboard voting booth that is strung with colourful bunting. Inside the booth is a stand with voting forms and a jar holding some pencils. View of the cardboard booth with an entry box below it and to the right the display of candidate posters.

🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand: A man (50s?) is approaching his garden gate when a huge fluffy cat darts out. Meowing an enthusiastic hello. Brushing first this way and that against his legs and asking to be picked up for a big snuggly hug. Purring like a cuddly little tractor. (1)

For anyone interested in Wellington streets, check out this amazing book and exhibition on now masseypress.ac.nz/pages/event/...
masseypress.ac.nz
Mr Ward’s Maps exhibition at the Katherine Mansfield House & Garden
In this exhibition, Wellington historian Elizabeth Cox explores some of the stories and landscapes of childhood in Wellington, including that of Katherine Mansfield, her siblings and her young neighbours, through the medium of the Thomas Ward map. In 1891, a remarkable map of Wellington was completed by surveyor Thomas Ward. It recorded the footprint of every building in the city, from Thorndon in the north and across the teeming, inner-city slums of Te Aro to Berhampore in the south. Elizabeth used this detailed map to tell the stories of 1890s Wellington, a vibrant, seething capital city, in her book Mr Ward's Map: Victorian Wellington Street by Street, which recently won the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards BookHub Award for Illustrated Non-Fiction. In this exhibition, designed specifically for Katherine Mansfield House & Garden, she examines what it was like to grow up in the city in the 1890s, featuring voices, stories and photographs of the city's children and teenagers. The exhibition, designed by the book's designer, Jo Bailey, will also feature copies of each of the maps, printed at their original scale for visitors to examine, and a projection of the many historic images used in the book, projected on the wall at a huge scale for all to enjoy.   More information about the event here. You won't want to miss this!

A nice story about a local "village" that's much more walkable (and more easily and safely accessible by bike from neighbouring burbs) thanks to some recent street upgrades.* *which the article doesn't mention, but which are clearly playing a role in the resurgence: www.stuff.co.nz/home-propert...

House values in Westmere have increased more over 10 years than those better known ‘upmarket’ suburbs of Remuera, Parnell and Ponsonby.
