I would like a law that says everyone has to be my friend and they have to like me and be nice to me, even if I get cranky from not having my nap, or if I get too hyper from having too much juice

Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives (1986) isn't great, but it's a step up from the previous installment. A bit too zany for me, but at least it feels like it knows that it's gone full cartoon. Noticeable lack of gore and T&A, but there is something amusing about a Greek chorus of child campers.

A less well-made version of The Invitation (2015) would be basically an iteration of "the horror movie is actually about trauma" bit, but John Carroll Lynch, very solid paranoid vibes, and the final reveal manage to elevate it to a pretty decent picture. Pacing still seemed off to me though.

lie bot what is the saddest post
from the r/TwinCities subreddit

Do any Rainforest Cafe Patrons Know How Seriously the MOA Location takes "Lifetime Bans"?

Is a lifetime ban just something they threaten when they’re really mad?

Or do they have a formal system in place to monitor and enforce the punishment?

If the latter, any advice on how to navigate the appeals process would be greatly appreciated.

Night of the Demons (1988) is one of those movies where they just forgot to add any likeable characters. Not in an artistic, anti-heroic, New Hollywood way, just in a "we were all doing too much coke to notice these characters are all assholes" way.

Damien – Omen II (1978) is less distinctive than the original, maybe that's for the best. Just sort of a fine antichrist horror thriller that doesn't stick with you at all. Some pretty questionable theology and contrived plotting but nothing as ill-considered as e.g., the second Exorcist film.

there are moral arguments against the death penalty in its ideal form but in real life you never need to get there. the prior question is "can the state be trusted to end the life only of the rightly convicted without torture?" and the answer is no

I loved (always, forever) Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (2026). Delightful. On a technical level, the set design and matte paintings(I think, right?) were just so cool. Also Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson are allowed to run me over with a car, like if they want to, no worries if not.

one of my fondest movie-going memories was seeing Blade 2 at 10 PM on a Thursday night in an otherwise empty theater, just me and my buddy, sitting 30 ft. apart and shouting back and forth to each other during the movie

I was prepared for The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) to be tawdry and exploitative, but wow it's really tawdry and exploitative. Fascinating that it was written (by a renowned feminist author & activist!) as an over-the-top parody of trashy slashers and then got made as a straightforward picture.

I had a dream that they made a new episode of The Sopranos in which the big domestic conflict was that A.J. had been assigned The Many Saints of Newark as homework, but still hadn't watched it. Tony and Carm were very upset with him.

Carl Theodor Dreyer's Vampyr (1932) sort of reminds me of an old school point and click adventure game in the best way. Close to a silent movie, it creates an incredibly eerie mood. Easy to see why Tarkovsky and del Toro both love it, but I think Lynch probably owes something to it as well.

I'd forgotten just how great Army of Darkness (1992) is. Just before skeletal Evil Ash gets blown up (spoilers) his whole skull expands and blows like a steam whistle. Absolutely incredible stuff, marrying early film comedy, Looney Tunes gags, swashbuckling adventure, and 80s horror. A masterpiece.

The Uninvited (1944) is a very well made gothic ghost story. Lots of classic spiritualist/haunting elements, which undoubtedly influenced a ton of genre pictures afterward. Really great effects for the time and some actually spooky bits. Great cinematography.

It's taken me far too long to get around to Attack the Block (2011), a very entertaining pre-adaptation of the "me and my friends/E.T." tweet by @hellocullen.bsky.social with Cornetto trilogy x Predator 2 sensibilities. A real shame that Boyega's talent was squandered in the Star Wars sequels.

A major gap in my film-watching resume was Raging Bull (1980). What a picture. No wonder every modern actor does stupid method shit for roles now. (Just to be clear I was shaking my head and mouthing "no" to show my disapproval of a lot of the problematic content, but *holy shit* what a picture!)
