This seems like a pretty big deal: donors made illegal contributions to Susan Collins and then were awarded lucrative contracts after her office intervened with the Navy. An FBI investigation was dropped under Trump. www.propublica.org/article/fbi-...
To skirt campaign finance laws and conceal the source of the funds, Navatek planned to funnel the donation through a shell company. The CEO wanted assurance that Collins would know where
the money came from. Reed confirmed that she would, the executive said - and that Navatek would get its government contracts.
After the Corner Bakery meeting, Navatek's CEO, Martin Kao, sent an initial $150,000 to the Collins super PAC using the shell company. Two months later, he told Navatek executives that Collins committed to getting the company $32 million in naval contracts, according to an internal company email reviewed by ProPublica.

An edcuation policy soloution that would get you killed by angry parents but also fix like 60% of problems after a couple of generations is children being randomly assigned a public school within ten miles of their house. That is the school you attend and you cannot transfer.

I have a hypothesis I want to test about blackout plates and their owners. I wonder if DPS would respond to a data request for a breakdown moving violations by plate type, and also the general prevalence of specialty plates

This math gets especially bad for Republicans, who generally drive more miles in bigger, dumber vehicles than Democrats Wyoming VMT per capita is 16,410, more than 1300 miles per month Lifted F-150 gets 13 mpg Gas @ $3 = $300 per month Gas @ $6 = $600 per month

A fun game would be to scroll down the list of top-selling artists of all time and take turns naming one of their hits. So first person names a Beatles song, second names one by Michael Jackson, the next one by Elvis, and so on. Fail to name one and you're out. Last one standing wins

So early voting locations need equal number of D & R voting judges. But MN law says that "support[ing] the general principles of [a] party's constitution" makes you a member, so any Harris-voter who swore to believe in family & the rule of law counts as GOP, right? www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...
§Subd. 17.Member of a major political party. "Member of a major political party" means an individual who:
(1) supports the general principles of that party's constitution;

(2) voted for a majority of that party's candidates in the last general election; or

(3) intends to vote for a majority of that party's candidates in the next general election.

finally reading the Atlantic piece on “Woke 1” and it’s interesting how even in their attempt to list the movement’s sins they struggle to identify anything significant
The established institutions of the meritocratic elite were swept over by the movement's force: Members of Congress were photographed taking a knee while wearing African-inspired kente cloth. Companies rolled out diversity, equity, and inclusion action plans and donated huge sums to Black Lives Matter and other racial-justice causes. Universities denounced themselves as complicit in systemic racism. Staffers at news outlets revolted against colleagues they deemed counterrevolutionary, and nonprofit leaders and corporate executives treated the books of the anti-racism gurus Ibram X. Kendi and Robin DiAngelo as revelatory.

It sometimes feels like we're living in a ridiculously exaggerated folk tale with wildly implausible villains. For example, as the president takes billions for himself and his family and *coats his things in gold,* the soldiers fighting his war can't get toothpaste, hot water, or a clean toilet.

The Democratic Party's approval rating is in the toilet, and the main reason is voters see Dem leaders and prominent members acting like things are basically okay instead of fighting like there's an emergency. Slot "my friend Lindsey Graham, so funny, how great to work with him" comments into that.

Literally cannot figure out what they mean by, "After the Clinton experience, Democrats seemed to handle cases more swiftly, but from a political perspective, arguably not more effectively." Also "the Clinton experience" is either a funk project or a euphemism for a felony
After the Clinton experience, Democrats seemed to handle cases more swiftly, but from a political perspective, arguably not more effectively. Al Franken, then a senator from Minnesota and a Democratic rising star, resigned from the Senate under pressure in 2017 after he was accused of groping women on photo lines and forcibly kissing a radio news anchor on a U.S.O. tour. Though Mr. Franken apologized, saying he had “crossed a line for some women,” he later said he had not done all that he was accused of and regretted resigning.

In contrast, Justice Thomas remains on the Supreme Court, as does Justice Kavanaugh. In both cases, party leaders and supporters attacked the nominees’ accusers and stood doggedly by the accused.

Both are wearing tailored outfits, but Trump's outfit is very wrinkly while Sung's clothes hang cleanly.
