I *don’t* care how good your outreach is, how smart your agent can hook into posts i’ve written. If you email me without me asking, and especially if you keep doing that, i’ll block you out of principle and will surely never ever buy from you.

The weather here is actually perfect this morning. If I have to leave Chicago at my favorite time of year, I’ll take this.

Google finally updated some of its satellite images of Gaza and my god, it's horrific. The entirety of Rafah has been demolished. The majority of Khan Younis is in ruins. Entire towns completely leveled and erased of the map.

Sitting here at the Frankfurt airport really makes me want to start learning German again. I was getting pretty proficient, but I’ve lost almost all of it.

The imagined influence of the algorithm controls all language, which is the same thing as controlling thought, ultimately. And the generation that’s grown up saying “unalive” doesn’t even know they’ve been muzzled all along.

It’s a very minor point amongst the far greater injustices of the situation, but the Cornell case has also just reminded me how much all of society seems to have just accepted the fact that big tech won’t allow people to use the word “rape”. (Or at least people *believe* so — nobody knows!)

(I can’t see the comments because I don’t have an account on the anti-trans machine, but I know the internet well enough to know people won’t stop hating the guy just because she told them the truth. So, how do you assign accountability for that toxic behavior? Find those commenters & out them?)

I’m glad this is getting amplified, but my take is different: it sucks this this is on Substack. Boom, roasted.

Agreed. I don't think anything really _can_ replicate Twitter (which I consider dead as X is a vastly different beast that just stole its IP) as it was the first and only for so long. We couldn't fragment the communities at the time. I guess this is progress though?

I confess I do miss my old Twitter account (not X). That really was a great community for what I do. A few current projects are showing me how many people I’ve lost touch with since it ended.

Sounds right. It usually tells me what state it’s blocking. Most of them in the central time zone require it at this point.

This whole “feature” is one of the best examples I’ve ever seen of “security theatre.” It does nothing to actually help the people it’s supposedly intended for and instead actively harms all of us who are subjected to it.

I live in Chicago, and I still see this shit as I use Apple’s Private Relay (genuinely a good privacy option for my threat model) which randomizes my IP. I often have to turn it off on the page load to see Bluesky. It’s so insane I had to write it up (chriswiegman.com/2025/08/acce...)

tl:dr If you are treating humans and their labor as disposable resources for technology, you are advocating a dystopian future.

I haven’t been on it that long, first Mac was in 08 (though I had iPods a few years before that). It drives me nuts too. Honestly, I like the evolution and the change. They’ve been far better at it than Google too as their changes don’t continually replace entire products.

Last Friday I switched from Xfinity to Astound (both broadband as this building doesn’t get fiber). I switched because Google Meet (work’s platform) on Xfinity had been all-but unusable these past 2-3 months. It’s worked perfectly (Knock on wood). I’m honestly surprised at how much it’s improved.

Agreed on all of that. Also reminds me of how many historians frame WWII as a repeat, if not continuation, of WWI.

One realization that really strikes me with all this: WWI is what really ended the old European aristocracy. It took them from then to the 2010s (arguably) to regroup and come back, now in the form of a tech oligarchy and complete with the brutality and hatred that defined that class the 1st time.

If I’m grateful for anything it’s that I’ve spent most of my adult life trying to avoid driving. Even at current US gas prices we only spend $20-30/month for our car. I do feel for the many, many people I know who have to do long car commutes.
