WAVE (1994) Acrylic on Canvas - 48” x 48” Of all the paintings hanging in my home, this one probably elicits the most comments. #art
An exponential curve expressed as a massive wave of green-blue water that climbs to vertical against a sky of puffy lavender clouds. Light breaks through the cloud cover just over the horizon casting a flat glare across rippling water before the wave climbs. Fin-like ridges emerge running up the wall give the water turbulence and dimension.

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...
A casual Star Wars alien fella at the cantina, in a sun faded, reddish photo. Someone will be mad at me for not knowing who this is. Phil, a balding Caucasian man, poses a model of the garthok, an antagonist from the Coneheads movie.Phil, a balding caucasian man, points at some CG on a CRT computer monitor, as a younger man looks on. The screen shows a model of a dinosaur attacking a jeep, while there's an actual physical model of that event in the foreground for reference.an isolated shot of a star wars vehicle. An Abyssinian roller that is also a little book. It begins: “Why is a roller like a writing desk? The need for fire and acacia, both. One for blood - the other, ink.” Written in India ink. - #SciArtSeptember Day 30: Carbon
A painted, cut-out paper bird in the shape of an Abyssinian roller. The bird has one wing folded back, which reveals a small booklet of pages under the wing. The underwing is brown and has uneven letters painted on it in another shade of brown reading, “Some small words about the medium of carbon.” The booklet pages are bright blue, like the bird, and the words inside are unclear. The bird rests on a wooden table top.A painted, cut-out paper bird in the shape of an Abyssinian roller. The bird appears to be in flight, with the wings positioned in a downward flap. I am pretty disappointed by the lack of public acknowledgment from the American Alliance of Museums about the situations at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel (which was AAM-accredited!) & the Sternberg. There are lots of museum crises right now, but these are particularly serious.

Both universities have large public endowments. Drexel was even offered sufficient funding to keep the museum open for another year which it seems to be mysteriously intent upon not accepting. Both of these cases look to me like universities deciding to sell off assets for financial gain rather than working to stabilize their museums until the federal funding situation improves. #federalfunding #museumtok #fossils

I think there are strong connections between body shaming, queerphobia, racism, and misogyny. I think you should think twice before body shaming even evil people. We should try and break this habit no matter how cathartic it feels.

Andy Beshear has an entire chapter in his new book about backing the LGBTQ community and it's worth a read. He talks about how the anti-trans ads were tested in KY during his election and how vetoing anti-trans legislation didn't hurt his reelection campaign.
However the anti-trans ads had less to do with Kentucky and more to do with the fact that we were in an election. Terry Schilling, the head of the APP, decided to test the ads in our election to determine whether or not the issue could win votes for the Republican Party. Earlier in the summer of 2019, Scholling had partnered with a behavioral science firm to try to find a wedge issue that resonated with suburban voters. That's right. The anti-trans ads did not come out of some firmly held conviction but was a purely political stance. Their research landed on trans athletes, specifically trans women, competing in women's sports. They tested their theory in the 2019 Kentucky gubernatorial general election. Although I won, APP considered their test successful, because their research showed the ads delivered thirteen thousand votes for Trump Lite, which made the race tighter than anticipated. You might hask how, in this political climate, I was reelected after vetoing the anti-trans bill. Because people respect authentic faith. The day I vetoed it, I explained my why. I said I believe all children are children of God and that I don't want people picking on these kids. I then countered their anti-trans ads with commercials talking about good jobs, healthcare, roads and bridges, public education, and public safety. The result? The biggest win of my career. So don't tell me the Democratic Party should stop fighting for the rights of all people. Just explain your authentic why, and then get back to focusing on issues that touch all our lives on a daily basis.

This is scary, but the extremely cool thing about CWD is that being a prion disease, it is a mistake in the replication in proteins. CWD folds proteins in such a way that makes them very hard to destroy. Not even exposure sun and air brakes them down easily.
