Meme of a man hunting a rabbit. The rabbit is labelled young atheist, the man is Dostoevsky. He holds a knife labelled Orthodox Christianity behind his back.

Excellent piece about trophy hunting as conservation by my friend Cal Flyn. It's an extract from her excellent book which is out next month! www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The long read: One way to pay for wildlife conservation is to allow the rich to bag a few animals for high prices. But is it just an exercise in colonialism?

With her radical politics and flamboyant affairs, Sand was no stranger to controversy, but it’s time to debunk the myths surrounding a writer ahead of her time

Just got out of "Who Do We Think We Are?", a series of talks at Theatro Technis (+ excuse to gather with food) about being a Cypriot working in the arts in Britain. Cypriotness is complex, and with every passing year I realise how much of me is tied to it. An enriching, invigorating event.

The mathematician John Venn was born on this day in 1834. To commemorate the occasion, here’s a poem in the form of a Venn diagram.
Poem title: At the Intersection

The poem is divided into two overlapping circles.

The left-hand circle is titled ‘me’ and the text reads:
the day we
went out to have
an ice-cream, we said nothing
just let our silence melt in
the air as we walked across the common
our love never tiring at all

The right-hand circle is titled ‘you’ and the text reads:
we should
have talked it over but
nothing ever seems to get
in your fat head. You are so
common that I wish we’d never met
at all and I’d married Tim instead

In the intersection of the poem (where the two circles overlap), the text reads:
we
have
nothing
in
common
at all

It’s so revealing to describe audiobooks as “lazy” – do you think reading is supposed to be a chore? Of course, it may require hard work if you’re attempting to grind through Das Kapital, but I also read for pleasure. I love audiobooks. They enrich my time on commutes, during domestic tasks, etc
