Second week on strike with UCU Edinburgh. We will be on strike for five weeks - taking out the entire first half of term, up to the first assessments - but we could be back in the classroom tomorrow if management withdrew the threat of compulsory redundancies.

Once again it needs to be stressed that this is something happening across the board in Irish immigration- changes in practice leading to refusals that would not have occurred in previous years. We are in a very dark time for the rights of people migrating to Ireland and their families.

University of Edinburgh @edinburgh-uni.bsky.social isn't running at a financial deficit. Senior management are cutting staff costs by making staff redundant and closing arts, humanities, and social science programmes simply so they can keep up (and even increase) capital spending. It's absurd.

This is an interesting claim because on one hand, it reflects some of my experiences of teaching in ways that are clearly produced by the problems of the modern university, but on the other, if I'm honest, I also treated university all the way through to PhD as one commitment among many.

As ever I would point out that this is good landscape management and there is nothing 'wild' about it and until we stop calling it 'rewilding' people will continue to operate with the ludicrous romantic assumption that 'nature' is self-healing and that human intervention is bad.
