I’m in bed with a migraine, and I woke up after a very vivid dream that it was raining, that heavy but soft rain that really drenches the ground. Sadly, it hasn’t been raining, everything is still bone dry. We have a 50% chance of 1 mm on Sunday ☹️

The sky in Lincolnshire is just rolling dark clouds, but apart from a few feeble spots of rain, it’s still completely dry here. Any dampness in the air is being dissipated by a gusty wind. Possibly we may get a tiny bit of rain in a week’s time 😐 Our house is up for sale , and the garden is so dry

I just saw the worst analysis of the handmaid’s tale and I’m not gonna drag the person but soooooo many people misinterpret that book. When Atwood wrote it, she said on numerous occasions she only included things that had already happened in history. The abuse isn’t novel, it’s where it HAPPENS.

The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. It tells things.

The farmer next door is cutting down the oak tree we can see from our kitchen window. It’s his land, and his tree, but I’ve been looking at it in all weathers for 23 years, and I feel bereaved. He’s developing his farm buildings, and I suppose he has a reasoning hope he doesn’t leave that stump 😕

Today all the branches have been cut off - it’s just the two huge stumps.

There are other countries on the planet besides your own. When you take the time to look around at them, & consider the possibility THEY might have brilliant people with extraordinary ideas to share with the world... LOOK WHAT HAPPENS! No cancer or dead whales or birds. Just cool park benches.

Belgium turns old wind turbine blades into park benches & playground equipment. These massive fiberglass structures were headed to landfills but now they have a second life as stylish public furniture. The photo depicts a vibrant expanse of green park grass and people sitting on wind turbine blades converted to sleek, curvy benches. It really does look space-agey and sophisticated as all get-out. And what a COOL way ti repurpose something so massive, that would otherwise just sit in a landfill. I am so impressed. It reminds me of that country that was making asphalt out of chopped up old tires and other plastics too difficult to recycle. Whatever happened with that? I thought for sure that would catch on. It was brilliant. I always assumed it turned out to be prohibitively expensive (gods forbid we pay extra money to save the fucking planet) or even worse for the environment, somehow... I'm going to look that up. Every time I think about it it bothers me I don't know what happened with that. Anyway - these turbine blades look super cool. I bet one day the US will have innovation again. If we don't kills ourselves off, or cut ourselves off from the rest of the world, Gilead-style. FUCK. I am so depressed.

Screen cap of parodic version of William Blake's "The Tyger" that begins:
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?
