The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Is there a sequence data repository that will accept ONT POD5 files? We've shared the bams from our study in dbGaP, and would like to do the same for raw data. It's easy for me to imagine that folks working on things like base modifications might want to dig into that data in the future.

Here's hoping! We've put too much effort into creating rich supplementary files for them to sit hidden forever. (There's a whole other conversation about what 100+ page supplements mean, in terms of the sky-high benchmark for a publishable unit, but we'll save that for another thread!)

Curious if there's a nimble manufacturing partner who could make personalized mRNA for 20-50 patients in a ph1 oncology trial, ideally for <$100k/pt & in <=2 months each. If you can encapsulate in LNPs, even better (otherwise we'll do it) (seems good to check more before building everything at UNC)

While backpacking in Colorado, a buckle broke on my nearly 30 year-old Kelty pack. Contacted them to ask about buying a replacement, and they're shipping out a part for free. That's pretty great customer service! Here's hoping I get another 30 years out of this pack!

Like I said in Scientific American last month, this is the military-industrial, for-profit approach to research funding. It presupposes an ability to guess at (and fund) successful research, and most scholarship on it says it generates neither new knowledge *nor* higher productivity.

#Artemis II lunar flyby images are showing up! 😍 A crescent Earth setting behind the Moon.
Earthset captured through the Orion spacecraft window at 6:41 p.m. EDT, April 6, 2026, during the Artemis II crew’s flyby of the Moon. A muted blue Earth with bright white clouds sets behind the cratered lunar surface. The dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime. On Earth’s day side, swirling clouds are visible over the Australia and Oceania region. In the foreground, Ohm crater has terraced edges and a flat floor interrupted by central peaks. Central peaks form in complex craters when the lunar surface, liquefied on impact, splashes upwards during the crater’s formation.

An argument from @nilshomer.com that in the long run, your tool's intermediate data may be just as important as the end results. blog.fulcrumgenomics.com/p/your-bioin...
I want to make a simple argument: every new bioinformatics tool and method you write should be AI-ready. AI assistants need to work with your code, your outputs, and your analysis logic. Machine learning needs to train on the rich data your tools produce. If you’re not gathering this data as you go, you’re leaving value on the table.
