Second test piece of organic ceramic form plus string. It’s been fun experimenting with different combinations. #pottery #wip

Porcelain organic blobby form with round indentations with small holes around the form and an opening at the top. Waxed string is sewn into the small holes to make various patterns, view 1

The entire state government of California is a parable about how giving people more opportunities to vote on something is not, in fact, the same thing as making your political system more democratic.

Working on an experimental large vessel inspired by some midcentury pottery designs while I wait for other pieces to come out of the kiln. Doing this one in stoneware instead of porcelain so I don’t have to be as careful with the drying process. #wip #pottery

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Another kitten in progress, this one based on a drawing my kid made #wip #pottery

A porcelain WIP stylized smiling kitten wearing a beanie, lying on its back with left paw resting on chest, right paw reaching up and exposing one eye under the beanie while the other eye is covered by it. Its tail curls underneath its stubby, outstretched legs.

Highly recommend the tour at Eames Institute if you are in the Bay Area. Loved how it finished with a “chair tasting” room. Looking forward to their museum opening in north bay in a few years.

Lobby of Eames institute. There is a pink and green checkerboard rug and a cast steel Eames Armchair, with some graphics on the wall behind it.

Wooden shelves and boxes that archive and meticulously catalog various objects the Eames’ have collected during their lifetime. A lot of toys.

Warehouse shelves storing and displaying various Eames prototypes, products and parts (chairs, tables, etc)

Really recommend everyone try the process of creating art just once. Just to know the feeling. Just to know what it’s like to take something creatively to completion. Just to be proud of it, even if it’s bad. Just to say you did it. Even that’s okay too.

Coyote vs Acme was great. I wish the animation of the characters was purely 2D because some of the genius in the original designs were lost, but overall the movie has a lot of heart and I have not laughed that much in a kids-adult-crossover movie in a long time.
