Big cities must do better to fix the housing crisis. We have a severe shortage of homes, yet cities like Vancouver continue to block apartments across most residential areas, driving up the cost of market and non-market homes alike. New from me in the Vancouver Sun vancouversun.com/opinion/op-e...

Opinion: B.C.’s big cities must do better to fix the housing crisis
Cities too often use their powers to restrict housing or make it too expensive to build while forcing new housing onto noisy main roads

How are Vancouver City Councillors doing on transit-related issues? You may have heard of our Transit Hero Pledge 🦸‍♀️ (check out our website, the candidates who've signed on have finally been posted 👀), but we've also cooked up this report card for incumbent Vancouver political parties!

"The impact of being hit by an e-scooter could certainly result in life-altering injuries or death, especially for seniors. But the solution is not to ban e-scooters, or to criminalize youth for being youth." Great letter with a lot of fantastic insights! www.nsnews.com/opinion/opin...

Opinion: Cars are the biggest threat on the road, not kids on e-scooters
All the outrage we feel about teens weaving on e-bikes and scooters would be better spent figuring out how to keep massive motorized vehicles away from all other road users

Will gleefully take the opportunity to point out: the lack of a regional rail/bus network is an ENORMOUS GAP in our region. Montreal: EXO Toronto: GO Seattle: Sound Transit Miami (?): Trirail Vancouver: N/A Imagine one of these leaving Abby every 30m to downtown, Surrey Central and the Airport?

for the sake of a LIVEABLE CLIMATE we need to actually build more apartments in cities instead of razing forests for car-dependent sprawl on the edge of town 🗣️🗣️

That section of Hastings already sees upwards of 40 buses per direction per hour in the AM peak by the way. How does that rank in the region for corridor sections with no transit priority? (and no, 2+ HOV lanes most definitely do not count as transit priority)

I was out in the Burke Mountain area of Coquitlam yesterday and couldn't help but feel that an environmental crime was committed here. This is a direct downstream consequence of Vancouver's failure to allow housing and Metro Vancouver's disastrous regional planning that promotes greenfield sprawl.

Everyone knows that some neighbourhoods are full of mansions for rich people. But few realize that we have laws that artificially reduce the price of those mansions for those rich people. We could change those laws, opening up a bunch of discount land to apartments.

Metro Vancouver can't solve cost-of-living crisis without addressing the cost of getting around

While the multi-billion-dollar SkyTrain projects draw the most public attention — and money — there’s another, often overlooked mode of transportation that Metro’s leaders view as a big part of the near-term solution: the humble bus.
