I teach American politics, which has been a very difficult job for the last ten years. Social media sarcasm makes it more tolerable.

This Browns-Steelers game, with Deshaun "20 sexual harassment and assault allegations but no announcer ever mentions them" Watson vs Aaron "withered husk of an anti-vaxxing QAnon elder" Rodgers" may have the worst vibes of any primetime sporting event I have ever seen

What a fucking clown show. No, that's not fair; clowns generally have their shit together far better than Republican Senators. Be sure to watch all three videos. It would be hilarious if it were not so outrageous and appalling.

Obviously this is morally outrageous, but I am especially struck by the mind-boggling stupidity of a political candidate creating this sound bite. Even if Paxton were not absolutely bereft of integrity and moral decency, his political instincts would make him a dreadfully awful candidate.

I don't think Idaho is in play in the Senate election, but... it seems it could be. Likely the Republicans still win the seat, but this is going to be one hell of a blue wave.

One thing that's been bugging me today: people who claim Dolly Parton wasn't political. False. She was very political. Her art and life's work were about interrogating power + amplifying the powerless. You only think she wasn't political because she did this by example, not bullshit slogans.

These "Democrats in disarray" stories are annoying me. 12 congressional incumbents have lost primaries. 7 are Democrats, and one lost to another incumbent after redistricting. Where are the "Republicans in disarray" stories? Two Senate and three House incumbents losing sure looks like disarray...

I hope Lindell pushes this, hard, and that other Republican losers pick it up as well. A big internal GOP battle will only help Democrats in November, and that would be good for the country.

I mean this in all seriousness, this is a severely mentally ill & delusional person who not only should be removed from office under the 25th amendment, but he should be in a psych ward. This is pure insanity on so many levels. He lives in a fantasy world. He is unwell & has lost touch with reality.

I liked Lindsey Graham in 2016 and before; I thought he was a good Senator and a decent person. I was not a fan from 2017-2020, because I thought he cozied up a little too much to Trump, but I can at least understand why he did that. I find his behavior from 2021 on unforgivable. (1/3)

Ha ha I hate it here
From the New York Times:

It is a chaotic scene on the National Mall.
Several hundred people have refused to leave despite an order to evacuate because of severe inclement weather that is approaching. Some are even arguing with Secret Service agents. At one point, a crowd of people began running back toward the stage. An officer is sternly repeating the order over a bullhorn and the crowd is booing. Many have begun chanting "U.S.A., U.S.A." A federal law enforcement officer is trying to assure people that the event has not been canceled. Many are not convinced.
One man walking by blamed the situation on "liberals in the weather service," adding,
"I think this is baloney."

Bluesky, you screwed up badly on this one. Popehat's claim that the world would be better off if Elon Musk were dead is correct. Musk is already responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths, and he regularly encourages murder. He will continue to cause great harm for as long as he lives.

This Texas Senate race reminds me of Indiana in 2012, when longtime incumbent Senator Richard Lugar lost the Republican primary to a right wing crazy, which paved the way for a Democrat to win the seat. I think that will happen here too. It will be fun watching Paxton lose.
