It really sucks that after Walter died a few years ago, the Steely Dan webmaster took down all the stuff he made for it back in the early 90s, like this chart on how to stop listening to the Grateful Dead.

I’m ashamed to admit that I heard Jimmy Buffet’s “Weather With You” and I was vibing so hard with it that I kept starting it over and thinking “damn I didn’t know Jimmy had such a banger in his beach bag” …and then discovered it was a cover of Crowded House and spent the afternoon listening to Jimmy

Maybe MAGA is not suited for governance? The Heritage Foundation saw internal purges, staffers using Signal to figure out what was going on, and spokespersons who attack the media than respond to questions. So, just like how Trump is running our government. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/28/m...
What looked from the outside like an exodus of Heritage staff in response to the Carlson controversy is, in fact, only a small portion of the 293 people who have left Heritage since 2021. By the time of the video incident, multiple former staff members told me, there was a pervasive atmosphere of insecurity and disillusionment. Employees were being fired or resigning without any announcement or explanation. “People would just get disappeared,” one former Heritage policy staff member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of professional repercussions, told me. “There would be a weekend where you’d come in and be like, Wait, I’m sorry, how many people are no longer here?” Staff members called it the “Heritage Hunger Games.” As leaks to the media intensified, and as more people sought positions elsewhere, a paranoia settled in. Some employees, believing that their work computers were being monitored, took to communicating with each other over Signal and on burner phones. (Asked about this and other specific allegations by former employees, Andy Olivastro, the chief advancement officer at Heritage, wrote in an email, “Their self-serving, bitter and vindictive attempt to disparage Heritage from the outside demonstrates perfectly why they are no longer on the inside.”)

Aside from its many other problems, the idea Fauci was America's power-abusing covid dictator is somewhat complicated by the fact that he never had the power to do the things they're mad about. His recommendations bound nobody and were not particularly rigorously followed by the actual policymakers.

Run like an Antelope from The Gorge ‘98 is one of the greatest examples of what Phish can do. I love that it starts with 10 minutes of straigh, just hard core jamming. Trey rips on the guitar. And that’s all before it even gets into the actual song. And then they close Set 1 with it! 🔥

putting the ol bigotry cart before the logic horse ballsandstrikes.org/legal-cultur...
screenshotted paragraph excerpted from the linked article, with the first two sentences highlighted in green, reading as follows:

In addition to all the factual errors, this is simply not how due process works. Miller’s claim is that people should not get due process because they broke the law, but this puts the cart before the horse: Only through due process can a judge determine whether anyone actually broke the law. Furthermore, the Due Process Clause does not protect only citizens, or only law-abiding citizens, or only law-abiding people with lawful immigration status. It protects people. And no matter how much it may upset Miller and his ilk, immigrants are, in fact, people who have rights under the Constitution, as the Supreme Court has long recognized. “Whatever his status under the immigration laws, an alien is surely a person in any ordinary sense of that term,” wrote Justice William Brennan in 1982 in Plyler v. Doe. “Aliens, even aliens whose presence in this country is unlawful, have long been recognized as persons guaranteed due process of law by the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments.”

As always: if there's any class of people who do not have due process rights, then *nobody* has due process rights, because the government can just claim someone is in that class and there's no process to establish otherwise.

11 sets, 87 songs. While this has happened in residencies (Baker's Dozen, MSG '23, Sphere '26) and on the fall 2019 tour (a limited amount of dates with 8), we're now in uncharted territory for a regular tour for #Phish (fall 2000 started with 5 shows before the 6th show started with a repeat).

The Supreme Court is an illegitimate institution built on minority rule. 5 of the 6 Republican justices were appointed by presidents who lost the popular vote for their first term and confirmed by senates that Republicans controlled despite Democrats winning more votes and representing more people

6-3 on birthright is an absolute dumpster fire of a distribution. In a functioning democracy it would result in three impeachment hearings starting tomorrow. Three members of SCOTUS (I won't call them "justices") showing absolute contempt for law and history. Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch. Appalling.

The Supreme Court strikes down Trump's attack on birthright citizenship. By a 5–4 vote, it holds that the 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to children born of unauthorized and temporary immigrants. Roberts and Barrett join the three liberals. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...
