A teenager used a gun to murder innocent children. An educator died in a job that should not be life threatening. And yet the GOP majority will again resist any meaningful effort to stop the next school shooting. This is the reality of the current Congress. And it’s heartbreaking.

ICE is increasingly saying that federal ownership of detention centers is the logical answer to state oversight. Today, a judge dismissed Maryland’s suit for records on ICE’s Baltimore holding rooms because the state law it used does not cover the federal government.

Black text on a white background
“More than 100 elected officials have joined me in calling on parking lot and garage owners across New York City: Don’t give ICE a place to operate. Don’t rent to them. Tell them they’re not welcome.

Last week, ICE agents shot Oscar Belgal in the neck in Marble Hill while his 5-year-old son sat in the car. They had been staging nearby in a private parking lot.

Our city laws keep ICE off public property. Now, we’re calling on private property owners to do the same. One garage on Morton Street already removed ICE vehicles after neighbors spoke out. Every owner has that power.”
