This very probably isn't going to work. Renewables stand to be so practical and affordable that e.g. power-to-liquid will start to be easily scalable. This pipeline may be economically DoA. And then conservatives who asked for this are gonna point and say "look, the public sector doesn't work!"

I keep seeing "hvac professionals" advocate AGAINST getting a DIY heat pump on the grounds that it isn't professionally installed, and will not have good efficiency. I have a DIY heat pump—bought and installed myself for ~$4000 CAD. My winter heating bills have been slashed from $800/mo to $300/mo.
