OK we're doing this #ChurchOfSherlockHolmes
Flyer reading:

What would you say to a man who...

    • fought for truth, peace and justice?

    • helps all those who come to him in need?

    • knows your soul from one look in your eyes?

    • sacrificed himself for the good of humanity?

    • returned from the dead to save us all?

GOOD NEWS!

There is such a man – and he can help you!

In Alan Moore’s Top Ten, an alien states that the universe is a battlefield between darkness and light. “But there’s so much more dark than light. Isn’t that terrible?” “No. Once all was darkness. Do not despair.” (Paraphrasing from memory.)

If you have a day free, a tour of the Golden Circle, as already mentioned, is the way to go. Blue Lagoon is nice for lazy floating around a heated pool with lots of other people, I suppose.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

On my first big overseas client conference, I was at a dinner seated next to a drunk client who kept trying to fondle me under the table. I was young, distressed, and had no idea what to do. I moved my legs as far away from him as I could, moving into the space of the man next to me, who then started patting my legs! The Regional Manager was a French woman who caught my eye, gestured for me to go to the bathroom and when I came back had switched chairs with me. What happed next was epic. A few minutes after I sat back down, she raised her hand with his hand captured in hers and announced loudly "Does anyone know whose hand this is? I found it in my lap." There was dead silence at the table. She threw his hand back at him and said calmly "next time I pick it up with my fork." Then she started a new conversational thread and things moved on. After the meeting she found me, gave me a hug, and said seriously "Never be afraid to make some noise. It is their shame, not yours."

Night. The House of Chimes - a tower which you might immediately think of as Big Ben - is adrift in the River Thames. It still seems to be keeping time. In the background, a large, alien building looms over the city of London.

This says more (everything) about the creative capacity (or lack thereof) of the BBC director general (a former Google apparatchik) than it does about the prospects of an “AI” generated Doctor Who.

Beyond missing the point of music, this makes me annoyed again at Wall:E’s casual fatphobia. Simply having humanity utterly disconnected from each other and the world around them, unthinking consumers of predigested pulp, would have been a lot more prescient.

Fascinated by the strength of Macedonia’s statuary industry. There have to be more statues per square km in Skopje than in any other city.
