Day 6 of my #BatChallenge. Might be the most high effort outfit you get all month because the baby napped in his cot for 40 MINUTES. Last ever baby sensory class (sob) so picked an outfit that would show up well in the dark. No babies tried to rip my earrings out! www.justgiving.com/page/josie-w...
Black dress with white moons, enormous dangly flocked bat earrings. Eyeliner. Baby wearing a bat hat, white top with blue stars and light blue trousers with cartoon bats, bones and lightning bolts. Sat on a pink fluffy mat holding glowing objects.

Day 6 of my #BatChallenge for @batconservation.bsky.social and this outfit probably doesn't meet my criteria TBH but it's a really nice dress (given to me by a friend when I was pregnant) that I haven't worn enough since I stopped pumping. More Mini Boden for baby. www.justgiving.com/page/josie-w...
Black dress with signs of the zodiac pattern.Baby top grey with stripey blue sleeves. Dog in a pumpkin design. Blue trousers and orange socks.

Day 5 of my #BatChallenge for @batconservation.bsky.social is another terrible photo for me but the GP called and wanted me to bring the baby in at 9.30am when I was still in my pjs so we rushed out today. Of course though I prioritised his outfit... www.justgiving.com/page/josie-w...
Photo of ghost socks which say boo ooh!Photo of baby eating the dummy box instead of the perfectly good teether next to him (shaped like a remote control). Wearing black top with ghost design and black spotty leggings and white socks.

Vertically challenged parents of children too young for a floor bed- buy a travel cot with a zip down side and thank me later. I think this might actually be sustainable and practical!!

Today's # BatChallenge for @batconservation.bsky.social photo taken while nap trapped. The new cot worked for 5 minutes but apparently draped over my lap was more comfortable?! I adore this Joanie ghost jumper it's so cosy. www.justgiving.com/page/josie-w...

Today we stayed in and caught up on chores- I think this tshirt is supposed yo be pjs but I wear it out of the house regularly. I also wore these cute ghost earrings- the baby was interested but didn't pull them out! He had a mid day accidental outfit change. www.justgiving.com/page/josie-w...
Selfie - Minnie Mouse Halloween t shirt, white ghost stud earrings.Photo of baby's orange trousers and pumpkin pattern top. Standing up using bedrail. Photo actually taken a few weeks ago as the top didn't survive long enough to be in photos today.Outfit number 2. Baby sitting on a grey chair with orange trousers and a blue and white striped hoody with neon orange skull and cross bones logo

Today's photo for #BatChallenge is terrible but it's the only part of my outfit that survived the day. I got my dress caught putting the buggy in the boot and the seam split open almost 2 feet, so I'll repair that before I share it with the internet. www.justgiving.com/page/josie-w...
Photo of bat leggings, black socks and black skirt. The skirt looks like it has a brown bleach stain but it's just a trick of the light.

The oh so independent baby no longer wants to be held or rocked to sleep but isn't actually capable of falling asleep without being held or rocked, it's quite the dilemma. He's just woken up mid nap and fallen asleep again on me. I'm savouring it while he's still only just over 15% of my bodyweight.

Discworld QOTD, from The Wee Free Men
Witches are naturally nosy,” said Miss Tick, standing up. “Well, I must go. I hope we shall meet again. I will give you some free advice, though.”
“Will it cost me anything?”
“What? I just said it was free!” said Miss Tick.
“Yes, but my father said that free advice often turns out to be expensive,” said Tiffany.
Miss Tick sniffed. “You could say this advice is priceless,” she said, “Are you listening?”
“Yes,” said Tiffany.
“Good. Now...if you trust in yourself...”
“Yes?”
“...and believe in your dreams...”
“Yes?”
“...and follow your star...” Miss Tick went on.
“Yes?”
“...you’ll still be beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren’t so lazy. Goodbye.

This is really interesting. I am not sure I can afford the COVID vaccine this year, but last year I took promethazine just before my appointment for my needle phobia/anxiety (because a sedating antihistamine is pretty much the only option in pregnancy) & I did not feel like death after that vaccine!

And some time make the time to drive out west
Into County Clare, along the Flaggy Shore,
In September or October, when the wind
And the light are working off each other
So that the ocean on one side is wild
With foam and glitter, and inland among stones
The surface of a slate-grey lake is lit
By the earthed lightning of a flock of swans,
Their feathers roughed and ruffling, white on white,
Their fully grown headstrong-looking heads
Tucked or cresting or busy underwater.
Useless to think you’ll park and capture it
More thoroughly. You are neither here nor there,
A hurry through which known and strange things pass
As big soft buffetings come at the car sideways
And catch the heart off guard and blow it open.

This, my friends, is one of your legislators. We didn't elect him, but he sits in the House of Lords as a reward for bringing us Brexit, injecting his bigotry, perversity and ignorance into our lives. Daniel Hannan in the Daily Mail today, once again grossly misrepresenting history.
Meanwhile, Caribbean countries are demanding ‘reparations’, not from the African states that enslaved their ancestors, but from the nation that poured its blood and treasure into a relentless campaign for abolition.

Incredibly, African countries – which became British colonies, in no small measure, because we were trying to extirpate slavery – also straight-facedly demand compensation.

My latest books cartoon for @theguardian.com
Hercule Poirot dressed all in black speaks to Captain Hastings in a grand hallway “Please ask the suspects to gather in the library, Hastings: I wish to reveal that our births are random, our lives meaningless, and our deaths absurd.”

Caption “Having investigated so many awful murders over the years, it was perhaps unsurprising that Hercule Poirot turned to Existentialism”

p.s. Poirot had presumably been reading a lot of Sartre recently…

"It is meaningless that we live and it is meaningless that we die," Jean-Paul Sartre, Being and Nothingness (L'Être et le Néant)

“Every existing thing is born without reason, prolongs itself out of weakness, and dies by chance.” Jean-Paul Sartre, Nausea (La Nausée)

This ancient Egyptian bronze of a mother cat nursing her kittens is a scene which feels instantly familiar thousands of years later! 🐈‍⬛ 🐾😍 The cat represents the ancient Egyptian goddess Bastet in her role as protector of mothers and children. 📷 Brooklyn Museum #Caturday #Archaeology
This Brooklyn Musem image shows a small bronze group of a mother cat and four kittens set on bronze base, which is in turn set on a wooden base. The mother cat is reclining on her left side with legs outstretched and her head at right. Her left fore and hind legs lie forward while her right fore and hind legs are drawn back. Her tail is draped over her right hind leg. Her head is upright perhaps tilted back slightly as one of the kittens, set between her forelegs, playfully climbs toward her neck. The next three kittens are being nursed by the mother cat. Two are between her fore and hind legs, the last is between the cat's tail and left foreleg. Mother cat wears a necklace which is indicated by an incised line running around her neck. On the front of the bronze base toward the right side (below the cat's left paw) is an inscription ‘Bastet, given life’, showing that the cat represents the goddess fulfilling one of her roles as protector of women and children. Dated circa 664-30 BC, Dynasty 26 or later. Said to come from Saqqara. The museum gives the dimensions as 6.1 x 8.8 x 5 cm.
