#lipidtime: It's a lipid universe. Today in Nature we publish the Lipid Brain Atlas, the first map of membrane lipid composition across the entire mouse brain, a layer of organisation that cell-type and transcript maps had left out. #lipidomics #neuroscience #BrainAtlas

After a maternity break, I’m back to lab! I started my postdoc @nataliekrahmer.bsky.social lab and @batenergy.bsky.social consortium. I will continue working on lipid cell biology, but change the techniques to include organelle proteomics and lipidomics. Stay tuned 😊

A couple paid more than $800,000 for a gene-editing therapy for their daughter. She died, and it wasn’t made public. An exclusive from us and @science.org.

How does a cell remodel the ER membrane into a lipid droplet? Excited to share our new bioRxiv preprint, where we find that regulated opening of the seipin ring defines a functional ER–lipid droplet interface — and identify SMLR1 as a regulator of this transition. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Groundbreaking study in Cell from @leventallab.bsky.social: phospholipid asymmetry is a defining feature of the plasma membrane and cholesterol fills the holes — major implications for how this membrane works. A #lipidtime must-read! www.cell.com/cell/abstrac...

Cell membranes sustain phospholipid imbalance via cholesterol asymmetry
This work challenges a major assumption in cell biology by showing that lipid bilayers can have drastically different phospholipid abundances between their two leaflets. This lipid abundance asymmetry...

My first-author #lipidtime paper is out @NatureComms ! We studied how oligodendrocytes produce myelin. Using volume EM, we characterized oligodendroglial ER (magenta) in mouse developing myelin and explored nonvesicular lipid transport involved doi.org/10.1038/s414... (1/n)
