"But the handicapped need cars!" No, what they need are options in mobility. The tech exists to enable their freedom of independent mobility, but almost always what is lacking is the enabling infrastructure. Bike lanes and quality sidewalks serve everyone.

You cannot acknowledge disabled people's reliance on the 7 while cutting bus stops and better serve the community. Full stop. Walking 1 or 2 blocks more to use a half ramp at a "level bording" will never make my commute faster or easier. southseattleemerald.org/news/2026/09...

The change from the 7 Line, the county's second-most-used route, to the RapidRide R Line could mean the new route would go from 67 stops to 45.

Bus stop consolidation will never make my commute better. It takes so much energy to push a wheelchair. Compound that with rain, broken sidewalks and a hill and a few extra can be impossible.

Roosevelt and Symphony stations are vital hill climb assists if you have a physical disability and need to avoid a hill. I used Roosevelt Station to getup to 67th st regularly when I lived in the neighborhood. And hill climb access was one of our arguments at DRW for opening the Benaroya elevator.

I dont want to dismiss the violence people have experienced on transit, but I am triggered every time I hear safety used as an excuse to defund or reallocate money away from transit. Transit is 10 to 50x safer than driving. Why don't the lives of car victims matter enough to change our default?

Lastly while governments scramble to comply with WCAG, there is a precedence that governments will not be penalized if they have an active plan in place to address inaccessible content and have an accommodation process when things are not accessible

This also continues a pattern of scapegoating the disability community when it comes to implementing the ADA rather than using the new standards to insure you're serving the 25% + of your constituents with a disability

As someone who has worked on WCAG (the new ADA rule) this is infuriating. There are 0 guidelines suggesting governments remove active resources just because they can't figure out how to make them accessible.
