Computing benefited from an extraordinarily favorable economic arrangement for decades: better hardware became steadily cheaper. Now we've got an industry redirecting enormous resources toward centralized infrastructure, while PCs people use to build things are becoming less affordable.

This bill would abolish ICE, DHS, and CBP, transferring legitimate customs duties to other departments. It would sunset Section 219 of the INA close the Guantánamo Bay detention facility and shutter all immigration detention centers. You have my sword, milady.

Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.

In a way this is a reversion to the pre-Islamic Revolution mean. The Middle East in the 1960s was a virtual war zone between Ba'athist Iraq, the newborn Gulf States, and the region's 1-ton gorilla, Imperial Iran. The British bailed in no small part because they didn't want to deal with it.

Remember when Odysseus meets Achilles in Hades and praises his death and Achilles is like "I was a moron Odysseus, Odysseus I was a fool, I should better have been a hired hand, it wasn't worth it Odysseus" lol. The homeric epic itself is critical of glorious death in battle!
I reassured the ghost, but he broke out, protesting,
‘No winning words about death to
me, shining Odysseus!
By god, I’d rather slave on earth for another man—
some dirt-poor tenant farmer who scrapes to keep alive—
than rule down here over all the breathless dead.

Why does planning an essay feel like you're doing all the work before doing the work, Grammarly? Because learning the subject, figuring out what you want to say, and planning out of the structure of how to say it *IS* the vast majority of the work of writing. Any writer knows this. You do too.

I have been doing a lot of critical reevaluation of Roman and medieval historians recently because I am living through the kind of end to an autocratic regime that very sober, serious modern historians have footnoted with phrases like "an unreliable account from a hostile chronicler."

Post from r/audioengineering
Why there's a resonance at 15.5kHz in Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer?
It's around -70dB, so not audible I think.
As far as I know its a great mix and master, so I'm curious about why is it there, and why they leave it in there. Also if my eyes aren't deceiving me, it goes throughout the song. I know, its not a big deal at all, I'm just asking for if anyone has an idea about it

There was likely a CRT TV on in the studio. It was recorded in England, so PAL, which means a flyback transformer operating at 15.625kHz.

Mamdani has demonstrated something that Democrats have largely forgotten. You can't just do good things for voters and expect to be rewarded for it. You have to tell them about it, over and over again. You have to advertise your work in office just as much as you did on the campaign to win it.

As a final note, the idea that Napoleon (!!!) is some sort of aspirational role model show how detached these guys are from any real historical understanding. In English writing, Napoleon spent the period from 1815 to 1939 with 'Pharaoh' (from Exodus) as the 'Godwin's-Law-Hitler' before Hitler.

This is very foolish, especially in current supply-shock conditions: the price will just rise until consumption ends up balanced with supply *anyway.* There is, in fact, no short-term policy solution to a supply shock. You need to restore inputs, replace inputs or destroy demand. 🤷‍♂️
